there has been a real lack of hummingbirds here this year

just a lone one or two coming once in awhile

The same here, actually I have none, the late May snow during mirgration apparently killed allot of them.

We had lots of hummer activity in May and then we had a real rainy period (we had about 7 inches of rain in June) and they seemed to have dissappeared during that time. I keep changing out the sugar water in the feeders weekly but no hummers came back. I wonder if they perished or something??

Almost all of my adults, male and female, look that bad -- or worse. I think they are just molting. It is much more noticeable in the males because of their coloring. Here are a couple of shots up close. Dave

I am sure I have posted this too many times, but I had great success with rhododendrons by scraping the bottom of branches near the ground, pegging them down and covering the scraped part with soil, leaving the end leaves showing. A year later, the new plant could be severed with a shovel from the parent. A mat of roots had grown where I had scraped the stem.

Female rubythroat. It would be very rare to have any other kind of hummer in the Mid-Atlantic, although they do show up in very low numbers with some regularity. Female rubythroats lack the male's bright red throat.

yes same happened here in may where i live in north western ont. one male showed in may but a week ago i had 6 more show and of last night i now have 11 they do not seem to be nesting because there are quite a few females. we had two real cold nights in the past couple days and they have been feeding at dusk really heavy. the way there acting is if they are getting ready to migrate again

Today I saw my first one in a month. Cute little green thing. I thought I would have lots, because I put out quite a few feeders, but I never have seen any at the feeders. This one was at the honeysuckle.

Low and behold...I set my motion activated camera to the feeder all day
today and got a shot of one!

I have my normal few for this time of year. I put out warm nectar on cold mornings. They were later coming to my area this year and missed the late snow storm.
