Year end assessment

I was lucky enough to have 3 nestings of 5, 5 & 2, but unfortunately lost one from each of the 1st & 2nd broods, either from heat or starvation. One jouvenile was in my mealworm feeder, just pecking & not picking anything up. He looked unsteady. Never saw him again. The other was a full grown male dead on the lawn just under the feeder. The saddest was when the female from all broods just disappeared(a neighbor's cat?)& the poor male managed to feed the 2 from the 3rd nest. They came to the feeder on their own for the 1st time today.

From April to today I have disposed of 220 HOSP from my elevator repeater.

I have about 40 boxes in other locations but don't get to them on a regular basis. 8 of them have been used by bluebirds this year. The rest were mostly used by TRES.

I had up to 10 bluebirds overwinter here in MA the last 2 years.

Until next year, happy birding!
