I'm sure I have a million eggs in my yard, but I can say that I haven't seen a beetle in 2 days, so I think those . . . I don't want to say the word that I'm thinking of, but I think those jolly buggers are now gone from my garden. My once decimated rose bush, has 4 new roses blooming, however all of my "profusion" roses are looking very sad indeed. I just planted them this spring, like a week before the frosts, and they were blooming like crazy until the beetles decimated their blooms. Then I sprayed them with the Bayer all in one product for Roses, and now they are yellowing and browning on me. I've been watering the heck out of them and feeding them plain Miracle gro and today I fed them "Expert" Rose shake and feed, so I'm hoping they'll start to come back for me. Also, should I just cut my calla lillies back? The beetles ate the heck out of the leaves and they look just ugly. These are the first ones I ever grew, so I don't know if I'd do more harm than good, if I cut them back. Thanks for the help!!

I did a little googling about this last month when a robin appeared in a NH backyard. Here's an article which explains the 'confusing migration' of the robin. An interesting point is that they move more in relation to availability of food than due to the temperature changes. So, if there's food in an area (berries) they'll stay. Here is a link that might be useful: Confusing Migration

IN the groups of birds, there were some that were similar to the Robins, dark gray, yellow beak and eye, but clearly no reddish orange breast coloring. They quickly moved away from my yard (still covered with a lot of snow and water) to another farther down that had more open grass and soil. The Northern Mockingbirds are too light gray, and I didn't see any white whits markings, though I could have easily missed them due to the distance. The Cedar Waxwings are a wishful possibility, but again, the birds I saw were of a uniformly dark color. Also, there are no berries around here. They were all gobbled up quickly in fall, and any drupes left on some trees were chased down by the squirrels on their high-wire act. The squirrels even go into my yews and eat all the little red berries. The birds I saw were clearly pecking and digging in the ground to find food. Today is colder and windy, and there aren't as many birds around

There's no bedroom downstairs, so the only way I could sleep in the same room as the dogs is if I slept on the couch. I'm reluctant to do that--although sleeping on the couch might not be much worse than the way things have been going lately. As I write this, it's 11:00 p.m. and both dogs are panting. Wolfy is clingy, nosing my arm and attempting to get under my desk. (He doesn't fit.) It's possible that these behaviors of his have something to do with the fact that I'm out of the house seven hours a day (minimum) now. Before I started this job in December, I was home with the dogs a lot more. Wolfy is quiet and seemingly content in the morning and early afternoon before I go to work, but when I come home at night his restlessness starts. Jodi, I've wondered about the sundowning phenomenon, too. Uxorial, I just noticed your message--sorry! I did remove the bone meal. Actually, I threw it out because Wolfy had bent up the box so badly. Sarah, it's nice to know someone else is putting up with very difficult behaviors from a much-loved dog. I caught some flak on the Pet Forum last year (just from one or two people, not everyone) because I tolerate a higher degree of ....well, mess from my two elderly dogs than was deemed civilized. I'm the first to admit that gracious living flew out the window when my dogs got old and often incontinent. But I refuse to destroy these loving and loyal animals to restore my standard of living. If the time comes for that decision to be made, it will be for their comfort, not mine. Thanks, all.
