If you pick the subcontractors, what do you need the GC for? That IS one of his biggest responsibilities. If you hire the subcontractors, then you are also responsible for their work, not him. Many people do choose to self GC renovations and hire all of the trades themselves. But, they usually have some good DIY background and extra time to oversee the project. If that doesn't fit you, then back off and let your contractor do the job you hired him to do. And if you need information about the material or the process, you talk to the GC first before you call the sub. That may be why the sub never talked with you. You broke protocol on that and he was wary about that boding poorly for the project ahead. EVERYTHING goes through the GC, or he may miss vital information that he needs for another portion of the job or to schedule another trade properly.

If you mean to bypass the actual overload PTC on the compressor that is cutting out...no I think that would be insanity. It's there for a reason. Or do you mean another thermal switch? My understanding is code 72 relates only to the compressor itself. There are other messages for other sensors. The troubleshooting guide says: If the control senses the compressor voltage after start--up, and is then absent for 10 consecutive seconds while cooling demand exists, it will de--energize the compressor contactor, keep the outdoor fan operating for 15 minutes (if 230v power present) and display the appropriate fault code. (See table 3) Possible causes are compressor internal overload trip or loss of high voltage (230V) to compressor without loss of control voltage. Now the interesting thing is, before I replaced the contactor, I was getting a lot of "no 230V to compressor" messages, in addition to the thermal cutoff messages. Now I'm just getting the thermal cutout messages. The control board on the outside unit has two leads that attach across the common and the start coil of the compressor, to detect the voltage. So I think if you are just getting the thermal cutoff message, it somehow detects that 230V is still on the line (contactor working), but there's no current flow in the windings because the internal overload is engaged. BTW years ago when this unit first started having trouble, I did get 82 codes (back then, the guy said it was the capacitor but I'm not privy to how he tested it) 82 is what happens when you have 4 consecutive 72s. These days I shut it off at the first 72 code and let it cool down. Now that I think about...Occam's razor at work...that could be it all over again. Maybe even though the cap. tests ok, it isn't.

If you are happy with your laundry results then you are doing everything right! Like @mamapinky, I sort by color and by use. F.ex. my bath towels are done in their own load as they get fabric softener and nothing else does. My bed sheets are done in one load and get a special conditioning detergent. You mention mostly cotton-poly blends which launder very well. It's amazing the whole family is so consistent. Like Larsi, I seem to have a lot of poly/synthetic blends with exercise and other clothes. For those I use a special Perwoll sports wash. Those loads include anything synthetic and anything that is predominately elastic. Also fleece. Re the lint balls. I found that doing a load of sweaters on my Woolens cycle cleared those away. For that I have a delicate/wool wash.

Gases can be liquefied under enough pressure. The percent mixture of gas and liquid is temperature dependent. Above a certain pressure, it will be liquid over a wide range of temperature. This temperature-pressure point is called the critical point. For carbon dioxide, it is about 700 psi. This high pressure explains why working with liquid CO2 as a solvent is problematic.
