bird identification follow up

thanks to all who responded about my inquiry on the night-flying birds I've been watching for years and was suddenly curious to be sure I knew what I was looking at.

Seems, according to most responses they are nighthawks (says my local Audubon expert) or (chimney) swifts. The description of being elongated (cigar-like), fluttering like a bat and chittering while circling around, plus the link to the song/cry of the bird was dead-on.

I was advised to try to observe their "vortex" activity by dirtgirl as a wonderful experience.

I will continue to watch, though in my pretty urban and light-polluted setting may not be able to see this but will enjoy what I can see which is not much detail but a general view of their flight, if not a landing.

Thanks again to all.
