Blues fledged

My babies are gone,all three have fledged. I am so glad. Had trouble with the first two nestings. 1st one,nest abandoned, eggs not viable, 2nd one, four eggs laid, 2 died, 2 left, this one, 3 eggs laid, 3 fledged. Should be the last one for the season. So happy!

What a sigh of relief, I'm sure! Now you can get back to what you were doing before the blues... they are time-consuming but such a joy to watch. They are the highlight of spring and summer for us!

Here's a pic of our June 2012 fledglings. Sadly, today we just lost the last one of the 2nd brood - they all hatched very late in the season AND we had a heat wave at that time. None of them made it past day 6.

Hopefully they'll be back next year - for both of us!

Glad to hear of more success!

Sagrinin, like you I had pretty heavy losses this season. 3 adult bluebirds, a brood taken into rehab, 7 or more young died, etc.

I ended with 7 bluebirds fledging. The Tree Swallows once again ended on a high note of about 15 fledglings. 7 for the bluebirds I believe is a new low. Sadly, because I was counting on a lot of success this year.

Hope you see them again! I've only seen flashes of mine since fledge. This awful heat has probably been to blame.

My family fledged today too! They were there yesterday, and gone this evening. Not quite sure how many I had as I was too afraid to open the door, but often saw there tiny beeks peeking out and Mom and Dad going back and forth feeding them. Cleaning out the nest, and hoping for another visit!

Whether they will raise another brood this year depends on where you're located. If you're in the south, they may very well raise another brood. Yes, take down the sparrow spooker and add it again if they start laying.

Sorrry I didnt see this sooner. 1> your hubby saw the baby leave the box...did it go up to a tree limb or down on the ground? Wont even get to # 2 until you go out and look under bushes and trees if it went down...If it went down and you find it and it can not fly, put it in a bucket or box with a towel or in bird cage and run back in here for help.....right now you need to be sure the baby is not on the ground. If it went UP then you are done. Very common for the parent to return to the box with worms after the babies leave.
