A Company NOT to buy worms from........

Have any of you ever dealt with Wormman's Worm and Cricket Farm? They are out of New Jersey, I believe. If you haven't DON"T EVER USE THEM!!!! I ordered some waxworms from them as Reptile Foods was out for a bit. I had also ordered some mealworms from New York Worms at the same time. This was on July 19th which is a Saturday. Both of these companies have free shipping or shipping charges included in the price if they use Priority Mail. Well the weather had been fine here, highs only around 80. New York Worms sent me and email saying the worms wouldn't ship until Wednesday but they actually shipped on Tuesday the 22nd however I didn't get them until Saturday the 26th but all were all alive and well and they were Large mealworms, very nice! Now back to my waxworm order, I still have not recieved it and they (Wormmans Worm and Cricket Farm) charged my credit card on July 20th. They keep saying it was held due to weather. I have sent them numerous emails (starting on July 23rd) and posted questions (the way they want you to handle questions) on their site and it took four questions before they responded (on July 29th) that it was held due to weather and oh, didn't you get an email about that?? No!! I said I wanted them shipped express and they should just do that for me since they have handled this order so badly. Well they responded again yesterday and said they would be shipped Priority mail the end of this week. Um hello, it is supposed to be 90 here this weekend!! What a bunch of idiots! I then sent them a email saying I wanted my order canceled and my money credited back, haven't heard back on that one yet. They have a live support thing on their site, yeah what a joke, they are never online. They don't answer your questions when you do post one and they say not to call as you probably won't get through. They also have a rating thing you can use on their site, guess I should have read that first, there are some good ones but also some bad one. I entered mine yesterday and supposedly they have to try to take care of it according to the rating company. I highly doubt they really care though.

SO anyway, if you want your order in a timely manner or if you want it at all without any hassles DO NOT ORDER from Wormmans Worm and Cricket farm.

Ugh!!

You might want to look into raising your own mealies. It's fairly easy.

jaxondel, I did know about the states where ag inspections are required per Vintage. Perhaps that's something that should be addressed further on their website. The main reason I replied in the first place was the 'minimum order' issue which seems to come up again and again with them, I dunno why (and I'm not singling anyone out on that issue). It doesn't seem fair (nor accurate) to say that when the roses cost the same, it is the shipping containers that are the issue.

but do need soil replaced from winter damage. This is not an issue I've encountered before and I've gardened in this area all my life. What sort of "winter damage" are you referring to and how does it impact the soil? Typically, once planting beds are established, periodic mulching with compost or other organic matter is sufficient to maintain the soil level and replenish nutrients lost through uptake or leaching. The exception might be with raised bed gardening or lasagne gardening which does undergo a bit of a settling process through continued decomposition, but there is a limit to that over time also. Is this what you mean?

I have ordered from hazzards a few times and am quite happy with the seed quality and service. The only time I had one of their seeds not grow true to type...it was "yellow pear" tomato. I wasn't worried about that one, but everything else I bought was good.

I was pretty happy with my worms. But then again they free from my compost heap. The linked to commercial website at least has going for it labeling the worms with the latin name and a picture showing what they consider to be one pound of worms. Selecting worms from nearby is always better than from far away if shipping. A pound of worms should be about the same size as a pound of hamburger. This is after the bedding is removed. With bedding it should weigh more.

Donna, thanks for the info. I am all the time going on line to get worms. I have thought about ordering from that place. But I know not to now, thank you. I do hope everything works out.

Thanks! I really don't want to get into raising my own mealies, although I am sure it would save tons of money, I just don't want the headaches. Hmmm, I guess either way I go I would probably get headaches. LOL! Well the Company did finally refund my money. It was so odd, I said if they couldn't ship them express to cancel my order and refund my money but they kept saying they would ship them when the weather permitted by priority mail. Even now that my CC has been credited back my order online still says held due to weather.

Mollysg, I too am always searching around the net for mealies/waxworms. I wish Sunshine had waxworms available, the said they would have mealies ready to ship on MOnday.
