Dead TRES Nestling

Hello all

Been a while since I've posted. Been busy re-mounting nestboxes at another trail.

I had 5 BB nestlings die back in May. At the same site 2 boxes are now paired at 20 ft apart. 1 has TRES the other BBs.

Both are getting along well.

The swallows laid 6 eggs, the blues laid 5. All 5 BB eggs hatched. Unfortunately Dad lost 2 mates this season! (Although #2 may have shown up again)

Anyway I inspected the TRES nest today and found that 1 eggs was still unhatched and 1 nestling died. I found it next to the others, head upside down not breathing. I'm pondering how it happend. (Starved or crushed by parent?)

At another box 5 TRES fledged in the last 2 days. Cleaned the box out.

Hopefully it wasn't the heat that killed the nestling. It's been pretty hot here lately. Odd 1 just died like this.
