Tomatillos- bumbs on stems, yellowing of plant

I have 3 tomatillos about 4' tall in 5 gallon pots. At first the plants were a dark green, producing lots of flowers and husks. Then, they have started to turn yellow- leaves throughout the plants are turning yellow and falling off and the whole plant is a yellow green. Bottom of husks are turning brown.

I've tried various watering solutions and don't think it's a water issue. Is this normal for tomatillos? I have fertilized once and fed it compost tea once.

There are also bumps growing along the stems of the plants. I had read some where else about adventitious roots (?) but they are 6-12' up the stems. Could this be related to the yellowing?

Thanks
