Bird song ID, please

I've heard a bird singing outside my office window all afternoon off and on. The song sounds like "warble, warble, c'mere, c'mere, c'mere". Very pretty and melodic, but I can't see the singer and would like to know what bird this is. Does anyone here know?

Cardinal maybe? It may be pretty difficult to determine based on description, perhaps someone has a link to bird songs online that could help.

I was thinking cardinal too......but its pretty hard to tell for sure.

Molly, I bet you have more kinds of birds than you realize, too.. When I had knee replacement surgery in late August three years ago I spent a lot of time in a recliner that faced the bird bath, I kept noticing unusual (for me) birds visiting so I kept binoculars and a bird ID book close by. I was very surprised at the number of various bird species migrating through that I had never noticed before.

Those two are on my "possibles" list, thank you! It has so many indications of either one. Really looks more like the Fox, but is small like the Song. Just watched it fly, and it has a woodpecker-type movement. My National Geographic bird book says the Song pumps it's tail in flight. Also, the Fox would be quite out of it's winter range, but that's certainly not unheard of. I'm leaning toward the Song sparrow. Hope I can get a better look at it's head today.

BN, that was really great description/comparison between the two. Thanks much for your input. Think you, Jan, and beegood are right on about it being a song sparrow! -mxyplx, maybe a new prescription is in order??? ;-) This guy isn't a Junco, but don't you just love those little guys? Never used to have them (or at least see them) around this particular area until a few years ago. Now they are all over the place and I am very glad of it! Think the ones around here may be the Oregon Junco... CMK

Thank you so much TMFF! Unfortunately this bird was there for only a split second before it took off so I didn't have time to observe any of its behavior. It was also photographed through a very thick window so I didn't hear any vocalizing. There HAS been some bird in the area recently calling over and over again...sounds a little like "Kerry, Kerry..." or "keeery, keeery" but maybe what I'm hearing is "phoe-be?" and maybe it's him! (Her?) hmm... here is the only other photo I got of it. I wasnÃ¢ÂÂt going to post it because the resolution is so poor but maybe it will still be informative in some way!

No, I don't think it's a cardinal, we have several nesting pairs and I am familiar with their songs and calls. We also have Bewick's Wrens, House Sparrows, Swallows, Doves and Blue Jays, and I don't think it's one of them either.
The bird call was so neat, it really sounded like he was telling someone to "c'mere, c'mere, c'mere". :)

Agree with Cardinal..field guides describe your "c'mere, c'mere" as pichew, pichew or wa'cheer, wa'cheer

I really don't think it's the Cardinals. I've heard pretty much all variations of their call, we've had nesting pairs for years. This "c'mere, c'mere, c'mere" is new, hubby has heard it too and is wondering what kind of bird this is. The Cardinals call mostly "pretty, pretty, pretty", "purdy, purdy, purdy", along with assorted chirps and trills.

The singer has been spotted and ID'd, he's a Mocking Bird. :o)
