Bird song ID, please

I've heard a bird singing outside my office window all afternoon off and on. The song sounds like "warble, warble, c'mere, c'mere, c'mere". Very pretty and melodic, but I can't see the singer and would like to know what bird this is. Does anyone here know?

Cardinal maybe? It may be pretty difficult to determine based on description, perhaps someone has a link to bird songs online that could help.

Nova, you sure get some interesting things up your way. I have yet to see a house finch in Florida, as they have only moved into the state in recent years. Where they are established, they are becoming plentiful, but they are still not established statewide. Not sure how I feel about them yet. They are so pretty, and have such a beautiful song, that most folks seem to accept them without feeling the frustration they get from some of the other birds moving into the state from other places. (House finches are western birds who have begun to move eastward en masse. They are now plentiful up and down the eastern seaboard, though Florida is just in the early stages of their encroachment.) Since they are native to North America, perhaps it is easier to accept them here. But whether folks love them or hate them, I sure would like to see some. Enjoy yours. They sing like canaries! (Which are also finches, so...go figger!) Marcia

I looked through Peterson's book and I didn't see any other sparrows that have a black eye stripe. Here's a pic of the bird from the back. I think it's a chipping sparrow, I just never saw one with so much grey. Is that the correct color description, eg, rufous=reddish brown? Thanks to all. The Towhees around here-East Tennessee-certainly sing the "Drink" part of their song, also the "Tea" part-sometimes written as towhee. This am I heard "Drink, drink, drink....long pause...your tea" Then just "drink drink..." I think it's a little later in the year when I hear the "tea" or "towhee" part alone. Right now I have an Eastern Wood Peewee that repeats "pee-oh-wee" over & over & it's kinda mournful sounding. He sings from a cedar tree in a small cemetary across the road & it seems fitting somehow. Susan

Yes, Old Forester got it right. these little birds are so cute to watch. I have a House Wren tending a nest made in the Macho Fern pot. Dril;led a hole in the plant base soil and laid 4 eggs. Little heads are poking around in there now and momma wren is busy all day. I wanna know what's the black thing they bring back for the babies? A worm? A fly?

No, I don't think it's a cardinal, we have several nesting pairs and I am familiar with their songs and calls. We also have Bewick's Wrens, House Sparrows, Swallows, Doves and Blue Jays, and I don't think it's one of them either.
The bird call was so neat, it really sounded like he was telling someone to "c'mere, c'mere, c'mere". :)

Agree with Cardinal..field guides describe your "c'mere, c'mere" as pichew, pichew or wa'cheer, wa'cheer

I really don't think it's the Cardinals. I've heard pretty much all variations of their call, we've had nesting pairs for years. This "c'mere, c'mere, c'mere" is new, hubby has heard it too and is wondering what kind of bird this is. The Cardinals call mostly "pretty, pretty, pretty", "purdy, purdy, purdy", along with assorted chirps and trills.
