song 'Virginia,virginia,virginia'

Hi, I've been driving myself crazy trying to find a bird call that sounds like the one I hear regularly. I live in zone 7 (Georgia).

I can't see the birds but I hear the first one call 'virginia, virginia, virginia". There's a pause and another bird returns the call.

Help!

Could be a Carolina wren. Most books say the song sounds like "teakettle, teakettle, teakettle". However to me it sounds more like "kettle tea, kettle tea, kettle tea" or "liberty, liberty, liberty". Keep looking & if it's a Carolina wren you should be able to spot it. Try "pishing" or squeaking to draw them in. They are very curious birds & will come to see what's making the strange noise.

Carolina wren is my first thought...sounds perfect for your description... they are LOUD and they tend to answer each other's call, whichever it may be at the time.

I agree with the Common Yellowthroat suggestion - although here they seem to sing Wichita, Wichita, Wichita.
