Got to watch

Last night around 7:30 p.m. I had a feeling the baby Blues were about to fledge because of the way the parent birds were acting. I took a spot about 80 feet from the nest and used a good pair of binoculars to watch. I was plenty far enough away that I shouldn't have been viewed as a threat, but I was. The first four baby Blues launched right up into the trees, and each time they did, the parent birds dive bombed me quite intensely. What fun that was. The fifth baby to fledge landed almost in front of me in my vegetable garden. That really upset the parents. I stood as still as I could and the baby eventually made it up into the trees with the others. This is only the second time I've been witness to a fledging, so it was really awesome. That was clutch number two. Since it's still so early in the season, hopefully there will be a third clutch.

that's so awesome! I have 5 babies now 8 days old. How many days did it take for yours to fledge? Do you really think there might be a 3rd clutch, that would be great!

I have a bird cam on mine, so if they make to fledging, maybe I will get some video.

WOOO HOOOO! Kendra! I have only missed one fledge in 8 years and that was the last one. It was the first early morning one ever and they were very quiet. I was in bed but still listening for the telltale coos and such but there was not a peep! Got my coffee out there by 8AM and they were gone. This next one I will be up at dawn! LOL
Lori mine usually leave about day 17.

I watched this a few times and it made me cry each time.THEN....we went to a store today and it just so happened that the Humane Society had dogs there..Needless to say we came home with not a Cooper but a Shadow.He's a 1 1/2 yr old Brindle boxer.On the small side for a boxer.They said he likes water and I guess he does,he already went swimming in my pond! LOL! I'll try to get pics tomorrow.He's a sweetie so far,housebroken,microchipped,neutered,has all his shots.He's learning to use the doggie door,even though he has to scrooch down a little bit! LOL!I'm not crazy about his name,but he knows it,so we'll keep it I guess.

gardener123wws, there are lots of online sources that can better explain it than I can, e.g., https://www.imore.com/apple-watch-cellular-vs-gps-whats-difference The cellular version functions independently from your iPhone. The GPS version is tethered to the iPhone. I've read that the distance is up to 50 ft. I'm used to always having my phone with me so it seems natural to me, but it doesn't have to be right on your person to work. At home, somewhere in the house is fine. Why would I bother to have my phone when my watch makes/receives calls? I like having the internet, books, etc. with me. You can access stuff on your watch, but it's not the way I want to get info at any given time. I don't know how much heavier the cellular version is over the GPS. I have small wrists and I don't even feel its presence, very light feeling. It looks big, but the benefits outweigh it. Battery life is longer with GPS. I charge mine at night and put it on when I hop out of the shower around 6:00 a.m. By 10:30 p.m. there's still 40%+ remaining and that's with heart rate monitor on.

Congrats on seeing them go Kendra! I saw four of my first nesters go this Spring, second nesting is set to fledge next week. I too am hoping for a third nesting!

They fledged at 17 days old. They had three clutches the year before last, and this is the earliest nesting I've had yet. So I'm hopeful for a third clutch, but you just never know.
