I want to include a Birdhouse and a Birdfeeder. My Birdfeeder is very large and I hung it last summer and was still out till recently when it needed seed and found out the thing broke at the top where you take it off to add seed ... so I'm mounting it on a pole and it will be just fine that way. It is VERY heavy so I can't have a tall pole for it. I included a picture of my bird feeder. It is 13 x 13 and has 9 feeding stations, 11lb capacity. I want to have a birdhouse separate but not too far away. Have an idea to put these alongside our ramp ... will look nice with some vines I think. :) Also, I know this bird feeder can be pole mounted because a couple people told me about how to do it. I saved that info and it says The pipe needs to be no wider than 7/8 of an inch. Anyway, looking forward to mounting that and I have to find a nice bird house to also mount on a pole. We have lots of cats around here (including ours that goes outside) and squirrels, so I might have to figure a way to keep them out.

My thought would be to drill a few inches into the bottom of the spindle and then insert re-bar into the hole and then stick the re-bar into the ground. If you are worried about moisture, you could seal the inside of your new hole with deck sealer. If you are looking to extend the wood part, you could get a new spindle, and drill into both the old and the new and connect them with a dowel.... that way the new spindle will rot away instead of the one you have. In fact, a dowel inserted into the end of your spindle could be mounted into anything... an old lamp base comes to mind.

I just want to comment on the word “outdated”. Outdated is a term made up by people who make their money convincing homeowners to consume and follow every trend that changes every couple of years. There is nothing outdated about this very nice home. The only truly dated thing I see is the built in tv area under stairs, and it is dated because it isn’t sized for today’s large TV screens. You just bought it and you are calling it depressing and a mistake in your posts??? Maybe the way it is decorated isn’t your style, but the bones of this home are very nice. Start each day with gratitude for a nice home, and then take your time curating art, furniture, and other decor that makes you happy and suits your nice home. A well decorated home that is thoughtful and isn’t a piecemeal of what every trend is of the moment will always be lovely. If you have friends who walk into your home and turn up their nose at “dated”, then you need better friends. If you are that person, I suggest you rethink your approach to life, lay off the HGTV, and just focus on what you have rather than what you don’t have. I would definitely live there before taking down walls. As you live in a home, you may discover that you like having some separation between different areas of the home, particularly the kitchen from the front door. Your kitchen function may be infinitely improved by actually not having an island. After you are in your home and your basic furnishings are there, you can post pics and dimensions of rooms and ideas of styles you like, what pieces are in budget to change or don’t work for you, and you will get wonderful suggestions on how to tie things together cohesively. If beige walls aren’t your thing, and you want to have everything painted white before move in, make sure you choose a warmer white over cooler if you have little natural light, otherwise it will just reflect dull and lifeless.
