Picture of Oriole Feeder for plantgnome

plantgnome...in my previous post I mentioned that I read they are attracted to the color orange, so when I found this feeder I grabbed it. As I said it is on a pole in the middle (open) part of my yard. There are large trees around the perimeter of the yard. Here is a picture. Enjoy. I have seen this bird feeder available on the internet but I bought mine at Menard's last year.

Thats a pretty feeder-I had something similar but with a wood roof. Got no orioles with it, but lots of squirrels hanging upside down eating everything, those clowns. I finally got rid of it, was tired of filling it daily to feed the squirrels. Also an interesting quick FYI-I didn't know till now:
Once Orioles nest, and the babies hatch, the adults start spending most of their time hunting for insects to feed their baby Orioles. At this time, they may not visit feeders quite as often. After the babies leave the nest, you might get to view them at your feeder, as their parents show them the ropes of Oriole dining.

Plantgnome, I did know that about the insects. And I believe it to be completely accurate. About 1-1/2 weeks ago, he stopped visiting so frequently. Now I only see him every other day or so. His visits may be coming when I'm not looking out the window. The other day it rained all day, and he was eating a lot of jelly. I was baking in the kitchen and seems like everytime I looked out the window he was back again. So beautiful!!! But it seems like all the birds feed more when the weather is damp, overcast and even rainy. I wonder why....Regarding the feeder, I never have squirrels in it. They can't get to it. It is in the middle of the yard and on a pole with a baffle. So they can't climb up and there are no trees or fences to jump from. And we have a LOT of squirrels around here.

Hi Lydia, I would certainly contact the company and see whether they will send you a new base free of charge. I have read many sad stories and seen horrific pictures of dead hummers stuck at those very feeders. The safer we can make it for our little guys & gals, the better. As for the orioles, I have had them try to sip out of the hummer feeders but the holes are just too small. I hung an oriole feeder and now I have at least 4 or 5 of them coming every day. It's sooooooooo cool!!!!

Marian - That roadrunner would've been a great thing to get a video of. Happy ending but - I heard a thunk against my window this morning and went outside to find a male Baltimore Oriole sitting on the ground with his head tipped sideways and his beak hanging open. It took him 15 or 20 minutes to recover and he looked like he was getting worse for awhile instead of better. He kept closing his eyes. I couldn't resist letting him sit on my hand for awhile and I fed him some of the nectar from the Oriole feeder. They're so pretty. My kids have made home-made snowflakes and stuck them all over my bay window to keep the birds from flying into it since it's close to my bird feeders. I'm surprised he flew into it but he may have seen his reflection. Yesterday, he was landing on the ledge under the window and pecking against the glass. I wish I had another Oriole feeder. They seem to be territorial. It has four perches but I never seen more than one at a time at it. There were two male Orchard Orioles chattering at each other in the tree for a long time yesterday but neither of them would go to the feeder and the Baltimore Oriole won't go to it if there's already an Orchard Oriole there.

I have some come in end of June when the mullberries are ready i put out a few pieces of oranges but they done eat it at all
