Anita...without even checking my bird books, the most distinctive mark on the brown thrasher is the golden eye..I had nesters in my previous home, and currently a pair is nesting in my neighbor's front yard...I watched them build the nest, and now the babies must be pretty big because the parents are removing large poopy sacs and seem to be flying to my backyard to drop 'em!! LOL...I do love these birds...

Speaking of thrushes and thrashers, I thought I might share with you'all pics of a applique/quilted wall hanging I made. It's called "Forest Fragmentation" with a Wood Thrush and her nest. The nest is made of tangled leftover embroidery threads. One of her eggs has been taken by a female Brown-Headed Cowbird, who replaced it with her own spotted egg. (Forest fragmentation makes our deep-woods nesters more open to threats from cowbirds, and the Wood Thrush is often considered the "poster-child" of our declining migratory birds.)

Bluebars...what a lovely piece of art...you are very talented...did you create the scene itself or use a pictoral guide? I'd love to see the bluebird quilt! Thanks for sharing with us...

Glad you like it. The project was from a class, with a general paper pattern. If I remember correctly, the pattern was a finch, but I designed the wood thrush and chose all the fabrics.

Blue bars That is one of the most beautiful quilts I have EVER seen. I love the theme. Most people don't realize the effect fragmentation has on so many species. How did you get the venation in those leaves. It is hard to tell. Thank You sooo much for sharing and of course I'd love to see more of your work.

Some of the leaves are cut from a leaf print fabric, and some have embroidered veins.
