Your male bluebird is probably still searching for a mate. Perhaps he is young, or lost his mate, or lost his former home by a competitor. Your state bird, he should find a mate soon. Stay tuned.

My desperate male BB in the mountains was doing the same thing to the point I actually felt sorry for him.

Your male is posturing-showing off. All the bravado, puff and singing will eventually attract a mate.

There is a female nearby, you can be sure. She's just being choosy and is sizing up this male.

Ok, now! Just saw him with a female checking out another box. I knew he was too handsome to resist!

Oh yes, I monitor the boxes. When I get a nesting pair I do everything but sleep out there with them :) I didn't have a pair last year and have been in serious bluebird withdrawal.

Good luck to you! I'm glad you asked about that. I have a similar situation going on. I think my male lost his mate, they had a nest going with 4 eggs but then she disappeared. No activity there for several days; finally I started seeing him again, he'd go in the box then sit on top and chatter. I didn't see a female until several days later. He tries to get her to go in the box but she won't. Finally today she went in a different box, now he goes to both boxes and sits and chatters. Later on they both were in the birdbath, a first for me so I was very happy. I'm hoping they will begin building soon. I know what you mean about withdrawal, lol!

Sounds exactly like what I'm seeing today after the female arrived. I have 3 boxes and he's showed them all to her. I think she has made a decision, but haven't seen any grass going in yet.

I lost a female once with 5 eggs on the nest. It's very hard.

I ran to the local convenience store and bought some waxworms. Best I can do on short notice.

It's hard to be patient, but I know they do things at their pace, not mine. I wonder how long the female will take to decide and start to build. I figure they'll pick one of the boxes, they have been looking for about a week now. I have some mealworms stashed away, so will put some out too. The male should remember the bowl, so hopefully it'll be an extra incentive. I am not sure whether to remove the nest with the 4 eggs. I'm really not 100% sure it's a different female, but all things point to that. I don't know why she would have abandoned the 4 eggs if it's the original female. If something were wrong with the nest would the male be going in there? I'm no expert so figure I should let them alone to figure things out. At any rate they have me totally confused, so am just going to watch and see what happens.

I'm no expert, but it sounds to me as if your first female is gone. When that happened to me it was the first pair I had ever managed to attract. I waited quite a while before cleaning out the nestbox, but I was in serious denial.

My male is still coming around and singing his little heart out, but I haven't seen a female for the last 3 days. Ran to WBU and got meal worms which will hopefully keep him here.

Waiting does not come easy for me:)

Don't these bluebirds know how worried we get about them, lol. Saw no activity all weekend, then this morning heard the familiar chatter. A male made a quick stop at one of the boxes, (empty one) then off again. I have no clue what's going on, but have decided to clean out the box with the eggs. They were laid end of May, and there's no reason to put it off any longer. I just didn't want to upset the male when he kept going in there. But since I am certain they have been there unattended by a female for this long I know I have to.

Any luck with your male finding a mate yet? I have my fingers crossed for you.
