A mama robin is making a nest in the flower wreath on our front door. I don't want to upset the poor thing, but when someone comes to visit we'll have to open the door. I was thinking of moving it a little at a time off the door and onto the house, then my second thought is to not let her make the nest there in the first place, but I may be too late. She's getting pretty comfortable there.

Well, I have seen many photos of birds nesting in those front door wreaths, but never a Robin. Bless her heart. You'd think she would realize that she is a bit big for that! Can you move the wreath onto a wall a ways down from the door, and let her nest? Obviously, not a good idea to leave it on the door that you must often open and close. :o) She won't mind if you move it a bit. ~~Angie

Well, I bit the bullet and bought a new feeder that only allows smaller birds through to the cup that holds the worms. Currently, I have it propped open to allow easy access, which was recommended by the salesperson, until the birds find the worms inside. I moved the old feeder closer to the window I'm able to see from, and Jung the new one close as well. Hopefully, the birds will recognize the old feeder and find the new one quickly. The tufted titmouse was the first to find the old feeder in the new location, and the robins were close behind. Martha

I have had robins eat seed from the ground and they have also tried to eat suet. I felt kind of bad, the robin was flapping his wings trying to stay up to get a bite of suet. He didn't figure out to hang on with his feet. I've had a mocking bird eat from the suet feeder too. Sue

Robin, I am so sorry about your Dad and Julian, hope they are both better. Sounds like you have not had a very good day. When I tore into my package the first thing I saw was the colander, it is beautiful and will sit on my counter until needed and I will use it. You couldn't know how many times I have thought about ordering the ramekins, those are just perfect gifts for me! I love the microplane, just makes the one I bought look like, well what it is, a hand held grater. You know how much I will use the ladle, I am really excited about it, how handy and canning season is getting close! I said I would let DH claim the strawberry jam, well it is already almost gone, it is so good. I don't make strawberry jam, strawberries don't grow to well here. Vermont Maple grade B syrup, if you haven't tried it then you don't know what you are missing. I don't think I have ever tasted anything like it. I thought I had bought Vermont maple syrup, but it didn't taste anything like this. It is wonderful, I think I could drink it out of the can. Thank you again, Robin!

Those berries/apples in the tree is what's keeping them there....they will stay until there is no more food for them. Even here in Newfoundland we get robins that stay late.

I've had house finches build a nest on my front door wreath, and I just left it there until the babies hatched. It was a bit of an inconvenience, but I loved being able to open my front door and watch them grow. It always surprised my guests, though, when they would come to the door and the mama bird would fly out in front of their faces! But a robin....doesn't seem like she'd have room for a nest and babies! I think I'd try to move it if it's not too late. :)

We sneaked up to the front door to see what was happening and there's nothing there. I think she must have realized it was a bad bet. Sure would have been an interesting experience though, LOL!

See my post about a robin building a nest in my tractor engine. An on-going saga! But I'm about to move the nest to a nearby tree. I parked our tractor closer to the tree so she could get used to a change of location. Then tomorrow I plan to actually move the nest to the tree and hopefully she'll find it and be left in peace! What we all do to keep birds happy..........!
