long time,no post.life has been crazy to say the least,but i'm upright and still a pet of my BB's. just had 5 fledge in a pouring rain of course. i have barn swallows and TRES that take my martin house every spring before the martins get there,but they're fun too. they fledged last week. boy do they seem to really enjoy watching the babies go. i have new "gas grill gang" this year and haven't seen the bird to know what it is. opened the grill for burgers this eve and there was this huge nest with 2 eggs that look like robin eggs,but the nest is way too big for a robin. if i can remember how to post a pic i'll show it to ya. Hi.

Good to hear things are going okay.

It's amazing...I had only 1 pair of swallows last year and maybe and extra one or two single birds and this year sometimes a whole flock surrounds the boxes! Where in the heck are all these swallows coming from?!

Hey ya Hoss! Good to hear from ya! Guess you wont be grilling for a while! It's always better over a wood fire anyway ; ) What would have a nest "bigger" than a Robin? Do let us know!

I have a indoor setup, but its exclusively used for daylily seedlings. I have used it in the past however for Tomatoes (Ive still done them both ways, inside and out, outside... clearly favors the hardening off process, much more healther starting plants, inside ='s lots more work to harden off and transplant shock issues ect, however if they make it, I can have tomatoes by end of july that way. This year I didnt even bother, I wintersowed a few types only. However.. Ive done petunies, salvias inside as well, mostly becuase salvias require almost no hardening off, but germinate faster and better for me inside and petunias becuase I wanted to have flowers in bloom before end of june. However, normally I dont bother, it all depends on what I want and when I want something. Wintersowing is just "EASIER" throw them into a jug, water it , mostly forget it till its ready. Frankly, the people who do ALL inside sowing just are creating SOOOO much more work for themselves. I have argued this for years.. frankly I know master gardeners with just LOVELY gardens, but spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on plants that would cost them pennies otherwise. Thier answer to me is always the same.. I dont have patience, room, equipment to start all of those plants, some of them simply DO not believe you can do the following and just be done with it.. Ive also refinded my own process throughout the years.. gone is the double marking, #ing and taping. Ive found a great paint pen, Ive also gone from a exoknife to a sharp pocket knife, I can cut faster and easier with one. Ive yet to lose a jug becuase of not taping it down, I just dont have the wind issue, maybe up to 50 mph here , rarely above that. So I no longer tape them. The only times I lose jugs is if I wintersowed TOO early and had 100 inches of snow on top of them, I know always wait, other then a few items for end of Feb , start of march. I simply bypass that issue now.

Reading your story makes me laugh out loud. My husband, bless his heart is not very mechanical. He installed a ceiling fan above our brand new cherry table. Looked great but he didn't attach it to the beam. Needless to say we bought a new table. I do alot of gardening. So I buy mushroom compost by the ton. Hubby set the trailer up for me and said "your all set to go". Went to go pick up the compost (which is about half horse poop), went to leave the parking lot and felt a huge tug on the back of the truck. The trailer was BOUNCING up and down the very busy highway. I thought I blew a tire. NOOOOOOOOOOOO- hubby didn't have a pin for the trailer so he secured it with a STRING. I am not kidding. I ended up spreading 70 feet of horse poop-no wait- stinking horse poop down the one lane of a very busy highway. Cars were sliding in, honking at me, some guy gave me the finger?!?!?! Fines + tickets+new trailer+cost of cleanup = $3500.00 Needless to say I bought a new trailer and it came with a pin on a chain. I laugh now, but I could have killed him. Your father is right. I say if it's not cancer, then it's not worth the worry. Remember, he will rope the moon for you. He could be trying to please someone else instead of you. Don't beat him up over it, he is already doing that to himself. They really do want to be the knight on that white horse. I read "the proper care and feeding of husbands" CHANGED MY LIFE, MY ATTITUDE, MY MARRIAGE. I fully and whole heartly recommend to any married woman who wants to improve their marriage. Get it on cd and listen to it over and over. Be sure to shut off your own internal dialogue, so you can really absorb. I am NO ONE to give advice, but I try to remember this stuff when I want to "verbally smack" him with all of his mistakes. Forgetting to remind him of how absolutly wonderful he is to me. Again, I am no one to give advice. Women think they know everything and WELL WE DO. Men are far less complicated than us. However, they are deeper than we realize. Make him feel like your hero or someone else will. Why risk it?? Your going to spend $$$$ on a kitchen remodel. Spend the $15 on this cd. You will recover 2,000% of your investment on the cd. Maybe 85% on the kitchen. I wish i would have had this book BEFORE i got married. So put on something sexy, make his favorite meal and let him how much he is appreciated.

Hi colo_lady! We're remodeling my husband's bathroom. Mine was done in 2007. Do I still love my kitchen? I do. There are things I would have done differently had I had time to learn more and discover I had more of a selection. It was the one remodel (and as of now we've redone every room in the house) that was unplanned (hot water heater leak). So I didn't have the luxury of time. The one thing we didn't change in the kitchen was the cabinets. After DH's bathroom and the house is paid for (again) next year, I'm hoping we can reface the kitchen cabinets. Also in 2007 we removed the wall between the kitchen and LR and turned the LR into a large dining room and added a peninsula between the two rooms. LOVE that!!! GW is a wealth of knowledge but man oh man, if you're an over analyzer like me, you can spend HOURS and HOURS at a time, ignoring everything and everyone (LOL) Do you know if Bill is still around? I've been back on the forums for at least 3 months and haven't come across any of his posts (except this one started back in 2008).

Kim_still_in_PA: We're neighbors. I'm in West Goshen (West Chester), PA I had to call Dell computers to order a new part. They asked for my SS# to join their free members club. Me, being the guarded person that I am, said, "Why do you need my SS# for a parts purchase? I feel uncomfortable giving that to you." She stated she needed it for the Club so I could get discounts on parts, and it would serve as my ID. She said, "This is Dell...you know Dell". Needless to say, I didn't give it to her. She was in Thailand. While it was probably legit, I find it unnecessary that they need it for part purchases. I'll pay full price!!

Good to hear from you, Hoss! It's been a long time! I'm trying to think of other birds that lay blue eggs . . . starlings, but their eggs are HUGE; catbirds and house finches also lay blue eggs.

i quit,finally got the pics down under the 61k limit,but they're not worth looking at. Dave is definetly my hero now. takes beautiful pics and can download 'em too. anyhoo there is enough grass in the grill to feed one of the horses and today there is a 3rd egg. robin's egg color but larger and a conehead point on one end. fairly certain it's a starling,but can't believe it fits in that small opening.guess i'll toss th nest tomorrow,don't want those nasty things all over the porch not to mention fouling up the grill.

sent them to ya Dave,thanks so much. a new egg each day.may wait till she starts brooding to make sure of what i have before i pitch the nest. 99% sure it's starling,would loved for it to have been a catbird. i have one around but have never been able to find it's nest.

My only suggestion is you might lay a quarter or a dime or something like that in next to the eggs to give us some idea of their size.

Holey crap! Thats a nest and 1/2! LOL Hoss please do sit tight and get a positive ID befor tossing. I hear Starlings taste like chicken? Little BBQ sauce?

it's definetly a starling,went out for more pics with something as a size reference and the danged thing flew in my face and we both made a mess.took care of the nest and am taking the grill to work to steam wash.they are a nasty bird and still don't know how that big ole bird got into the grill.
