Should I remove..........

Well my baby blue birds left the nest....and I missed it! I was so mad, been watching the parents all day everyday bringing food to the babies, then I looked away and poof, gone. So my question is should I remove the old nest or do I just leave it? The parents still hang around it alitte and they are also building a nest in my front yard bird house (I guess its the same ones, dont really know?) Do they usually do that, build a second nest in a different bird house?

Remove the old nest. Clean out the box. They might build back on top of the old nest, but by removing the old nest and cleaning good, you remove any parasites and other bugs that might be detrimental to cavity nestors. Good Luck!

By removing the nest you will also prevent the second nest from being too close to the entry and putting the baby blues closer to any predators that happen to be trying to reach them.

After removing the nest, discard it away from the nest box so that it does not attract predators. I spray my nest boxes with a dilute bleach solution and leave open to dry for a day.

first.. remove dead leaves ... if they were in the ground.. i would suggest that is where early slugs are hiding ... second ... you should be able to tell from the weight of the bag... how much water is in there ... if you had a grow bag of dry media ... im just making up numbers.. maybe it would weigh one pound ... if you can barely lift a bag .. and it feels like ten pounds.. well ... you have 9 pounds of water in there... just a little more than a gallon.. if that old 7 pound thing is correct ... what you should do over the summer.. is water a bag ... mark the date.. and not water it again.. until you see the plant wilting a bit ... then see how many days to took to dry ... and then water accordingly ... i think you ought to cut way back.. until you figure out some facts to work with ... until the high heat of summer hits.. i cant really think they need water every day .. especially when they havent spread out their water losing leaves to the atmosphere ... and keep track of spring rain amounts... to use in your equation ... my bottom line.. as usual ... try not to kill them with too much love.. and watering every day in march.. might just be that ... ken

Your particular skylight looks a bit old fashioned (is it a tube?) but skylights themselves can be quite modern. We have one in our kitchen similar to this. If it's a tube/tunnel, how about something along these lines: I wouldn't give up the extra light.

I would swing the study door out into the hallway instead of inward, which will get in the way of the closet doors. I have a little desk area inside a closet in my bedroom and I love it. It keeps me convenient to the action in the house and I can shut the doors when I'm not using the space. Eventually, I'll take over our oldest son's bedroom once he's officially out of the house but this works for the time being.

Most people dont want the popcorn ceilings and they remove them. If you really dont like them, then, this is definitely the time to remove, when you are already doing other remodeling. Its a messy job. Also, some popcorn ceilings contain asbestos, and you will need to get them tested before removal.

Jen, they usually wait until nobody's looking LOL. Sometimes they peek out for the longest time, and we watch and watch for days. The minute we take a break, Poof, gone, like you said!
Other times, they fledge very quickly. I once watched from the house as all 5 youngsters fledged while a hawk was nearby; I believe the parents panicked and frantically called them out. They must know best, as they all fledged and survived fine.
But it sounds like you might get another chance to watch! Don't disturb them near fledging time, so they don't fledge before they are really ready; they will be very vulnerable if they cannot fly.
Visit this link to read more about monitoring, etc. You will find nesting timetables, and how-to's, so you can know what to expect and what to do (or NOT do) and when. Keep notes on a calendar as you monitor, so you can make your own timetable, relative to your own geographic area.
