Help have question about eggs not hatching?

My blues had 5 eggs day before yesterday (Monday) 3 eggs hatched, what do I do if the other 2 don't hatch? Last yr. I had 4 eggs and they were all hatched within 2 days....so I'm curious if sometimes all of them don't make it and what if anything I should do. Thank you

Deedee, some people leave them in the nest for the blues to deal with. Others remove them so that they don't get broken and attract ants. If it were me, if they haven't hatched by tomorrow then I would remove them. Even if they hatched those young would have less chance for survival than their older siblings simply because of size. Congrats on the hatchage, by the way.

Kathy, thanks for your advice I went out this evening and used one of my grandkids plastic spoon since they're tiny and removed the eggs ever so gently, one of the babies thought I was mom and had its mouth open for feeding LOL...but I was able to remove the eggs and I brought them into my house and cracked them and they were not developed just yolk so maybe on her next nesting she'll have better luck with all the eggs.

I recently had a similar issue with a goose. I'd try to take them out when she's away and candle them, just to be sure, then take it from there. You'll find other posts here on how to candle if you don't know how. They'll just eventually rot and "explode", and get stink and grossness all over and on momma. Plus, it's kinda hard on the females to sit for extremely long times. They don't get out and about too much to eat, etc.. They can be so dedicated, can't they?

That's why I suggested the suet. It may not be a perfect solution, but it should get them through the cold spell. If you choose to try mealworms, you could place them out in an open dish. Or tie an empty cat food can sized container to a nearby branch? Other birds will eat them as well, so only as an emergency to keep the babies fed until the weather warms up enough for the parents to find insects. Of course, if it rains, they drown. My local feed store sells the dried mealworms. Blues won't usually take those, but in a situation where their young are starving I think they will.

Go get a kid's wading pool. Fill it with water from the pond. The tadpoles will change into frogs in about 6 weeks. Put it where it gets a bit of sun so it grows nice algae but not too much so it doesn't get too hot.They eat the algae that grows on the side of the pool but not the algae that makes the water green. Sometimes they will eat fish food, water plants. Maybe the pet stores have tadpole food? I have 2 pools going right now, one for the toads and one for the tree frogs. They have some potted plants from the goldfish pond - one came with fish eggs so the toad pool has baby fish also.
