Donna, here to the east of you in MA we have also had trees blooming ahead of schedule. But here it has been quite wet. My TRES come for a visit every day, and have even checked out last years nest, but have not begun nest building yet. The BCCH have also been checking out the same box they used last year, but have not brought in any nesting material yet. I suppose everyone's waiting for the weather to warm up and dry up so they will have insects to feed. Sounds like you're off to a really great start of the nesting season. The Blues started early and have 5, five day old chicks to feed. Maybe they felt safe starting early since I fed them all winter. So far, so good.

we have had a mild winter here as far as snow its way below normal but have had lots of cold nights and mostly sunny days. just patches of snow left on the ground. the red wing blackbirds are already here a month early and a couple Lewis's woodpeckers also here ahead of normal I get eurasian doves year around but the mourning does just spend the spring and summer and i have a pair of the mourning here this week that are also a month early. The evening grosbeaks usually leave out in late fall and come back in spring but a flock has stayed around all winter. the nuthatches and tits and chickadees usually stay all winter and leave out in spring but they have already started to move uphill into the mountains.there has been several sightings of orioles just 50 miles south of here this week a month early

Gosh, Konrad wish my red breasted nuthatches would use a nestbox! Every year they try in a dead tree and it seems every year they get booted out or have a failed nesting. Their first attempt this year was thwarted by a House Sparrow trying to take over their cavity they dug way up in a dead Poplar tree. Then a woodpecker made it larger. Then they moved to the other side of the woods and tried again. Not sure what might have happened there but I haven't been seeing them anymore so who knows. I know my Dees natural cavity nests always fail due to Red Bellied Woodpeckers. This year my Dees nesting in my birdhouse, yeah! Do you have a special house for the RBNH's? I also have Orioles building nests in my woods. We usually have two to three families around the yard.
