Signs of Spring

Hi all,

We are so happy that Spring is here at last... All our backyard birds have begun displaying their mating colors, and even the backgrounds and environments in our photos of them are starting to show the color of Spring as well. :)

Here are some recent shots...

The Brown Thrashers have returned to the yard... this is the female:

We also have a pair of Mockingbirds:

The Carolina Wrens are year-round residents here, but we have at least one mating pair (we see him feeding her):

The Goldfinches are just beginning to get their color back (they breed much later in the year):

We've been watching a pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers from afar since mid-winter. Their nest is 3 yards away but they have just recently begun visiting our feeders and bath:

We have several Red-bellied Woodpeckers here also... including our mating pair who've been with us for a few years now. We believe this young male to be one of their off-spring from last season:

Our Cardinals are mating again now too... here's the male:

And here's his mate:

And of course our Bluebirds are still here too...

Missy has 5 blue eggs in her first nest of the season:

She and Mr.B are in their fourth season with us now and have already given us 29 precious baby Bluebirds :)

Needless to say we are relishing the mild weather and budding trees... but it's always our birds which give us the most joy all year long.

We hope you enjoy seeing them too.
