Flycatchers - nesting confusion!!!

So, for those who have followed the 'New Tenants' thread you'll know we had a pair of Great Crested Flycatchers builing a nest in our Blues favorite box. They built for about 7 days, then seemed to disappear.

We recently discovered them (?) building another nest in a satellite dish antenna cover down a garden or two BUT.... we have now seen 3 GCFCs ..sometimes fighting it seems, and wonder if maybe there were two pairs and we lost one bird which resulted in an abandoned (maybe not!?!?) nest or perhaps there was only one pair to start with and they just left it because they were spooked?

The confusing part is we've seen Mama twice now head back to the first nest with material in her mouth. Having checked inside things have been moved around. For those that saw the pic on the other post, the large piece of animal hair is now at the back and new plastic has been brought in.

We just wonder, do they sometimes build more than one nest at a time?? We don't want to remove the nest too soon but also don't want to leave it in there too long with our Blues looking to start a second brood. There are other boxes but this is their fave...

Our Blues are back with babies trailing behind... not sure if they 'ran the GCFCs off', or if we did inadvertently. Just not sure what is going on. Guess time will tell, but if anyone with any insight into GCFC nesting habits could elaborate we'd sure appreciate it!!

Thanks,

Bridget.
