You are so lucky to have had chickadees nest with you!!! I keep hoping :) good job on getting the HOSP!!!!! I agree with Lisa it sickens me too, but I know first hand the hosp. have to be eliminated. Karen

Cathy I am so sorry to hear about your Dees! I would be heartbroken too to loose them like that. We were excited when we had Dees nestbuilding and very dissappointed when they were run off but it is better than what you are going through. Hosting birds is so very nerve wracking, sad at times and so much joy at times too. I am playing the wren game here, they are now nest building it two different houses. I keep emptying sticks, they keep adding them. Luckily I guess we only have TRES nesting now in the seven other boxes and still one empty box as I guess they are better prepared for the wrens than the other birds are. They worry me sometimes though when it gets cooler like this weekend did, only the two incubating were anywhere to be seen, the other birds were missing in action, checked the nests yesterday afternoon and two other pairs have eggs (3 each) the eggs were ok but I know it doesn't take those wrens long to do their dirty work. Yup, suet blocks, peanut butter nuggets & sunflower hearts, they are eating it all. These guys must have been traveling together, stopped and my feeders and all decided to stay. Only thing those catbirds haven't started eating is the niger thistle in the gold finch feeder. Funny, the gold finches arenow spending more time at the sunflower heart feeder than at theirs w/ the thistel.

I began thinking. The chicadees and the wrens and a hosp box and bluebirds were all doing okay. I did not want to remove the hosp box as it worked as the bluebird took one box and the hosp the other. Everyone was leaving everyone alone. If I took the hosp box down they would have retaliated. Actually they are still there with their babies. What I believe happened was that another Hosp and his girlfriend from another area whether on my street or wherever came looking for a box and thats where the trouble began or perhaps something ruined their nest and they retaliated. They came out of the blue onto my property. Now that is hard to control.
