Help with birdsong ID

Hi all,

I'm in zone 5. There's been a bird singing around here for several weeks that I just can't identify. He's been very hard to spot too. Its sort of similar to a chipping sparrow song, but starts out slow for a couple notes and then picks up speed and stays at that faster pace (all one pitch). Its not as fast as a chipping sparrow song, and its more melodious. I've listened to songs by various sparrows and warblers, and I just can't find it.

Any ideas that might point me in the right direction?

I immediately thought that too!

I picture Field Sparrow song as being like a ping-pong ball bouncing around inside a glass jar, going faster and faster until it stops

It sounds in a way similar to a chickadee to me - a two-note, descending melody - but distinct enough that I can't possibly see that it could be one unless I've got mutant chickadees in the woods at work.

Hi Gina, no apologies needed:-) people her will chime in on the IDs, it's not a pain at all, and the list is a little less active because it's JUNE, yay, we are all out in the dirt:-) if you don't get a response soon, try this: repost your photos with numbers and just a short request for ID's. That makes it easier for folks to answer. usually you'll get several responses, with each person just IDing a couple plants, rather than one person doing it all. The numbers help make it easier for several folks to each focus on what they know best.

I grew up in NoKy - been in OR for 30 years. Yep, it is a "Bristlecone" but I think it is a "Foxtail" - Balfouriana - truly gorgeous. Pretty sure, like I've seen at Bryce Cyn. Surprised I don't see more of them. Seems to me the distinctions among the 3 "Bristlecones" just keep getting more & more confused. We have some I am certain are ARISTATA & LONGAEVA.
