Name That Plant!

Need help ID'ing this small yellow flower

Found in SW lower Michigan, September 16. The plants were growing in fairly sandy soil with a lot of pine trees in the area as well as some hardwoods. There appear to have been quite a few flowers in a cluster, some have finished blooming and a few look like they might still bloom later.

I’d go as far as guessing Hypericum for the genus and leave others to say the species.

Using your genus tip I think it might be Hypericum punctatum (Spotted St. John's-wort). Also looked at H. mutilum and H. boreale but the leaves seemed too small.

Thank you. I'll be sure to use that forum when I need ID assistance again. The area where this flower is will eventually be cleared out, and I'll be putting gravel there. I've decided to try to salvage the random nice flowers that pop up there from time to time-particularly hummingbird friendly plants. A couple months ago I found some nice garden phlox and put it in a flowerbed in our yard.
