Blackbird behaviors

The blackbirds in my area are acting peculiar lately.

Several Red Wings have started to fly at each other and do what appears to be fighting. The bash each other on the ground in the air, while displaying their red spot. Are they fighting? If so, are they fighting for territory or a mate (the lady is always not in sight)?

I have seen several incident where a grackle gets all puffy like and then get on top of the other grackle and start flapping its wings. May be they're mating? I can't really tell male and female grackles apart. I am not sure why they do this on top of the ground feeder though.
