Hi konrad, I followed your links but decided to go with a different design. Many Canon cameras can be booted with a custom firmware, see here: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK One of the features in the firmware is a motion detection. Basically, you don't need an extra electronics, just a Canon, batteries and an enclosure. I just ordered Canon S2 ($30 at eBay !), will see how it goes.

Looking at the camera today - they are growing fast. BUT, also spotted a LBB* busily building a nest just under the rim of the eagle's nest. It was hauling in grass. I imagine that there is an entire ecosystem in that nest, living off the scraps and the insects attracted by the scraps. *Little brown bird

Thanks for posting the link! One of my very favorite childhood memories is my Daddy lifting me up to see the hummingbird eggs and then watching the eggs become babies. We were admonished NEVER to climb up the ladder to look into the nest after that first time.
