Here it is...months ago, I saw a cat sitting on my privacy fence. None of my neighbors own a cat, so I figured it was a "wild" cat, probably living in the large wooded area behind my house. She or he would show up for a few days, disappear for awhile, then back again. If I walked into the yard, it would jump off the fence into the woods. Well, about two weeks ago on a very cold night, I was out on the breezeway and heard a "meow" across my driveway. There was kitty kitty, and what did I do??....FED her! She walked right up to the bowl with me standing beside her. Fast forward...now this cat seems to have made a home sleeping on my outdoor furniture and has grown very comfortable with my presence. Admittedly, I have fed her a few times which in retrospect, was a big mistake...I think! I know nothing about cats and have never owned one, and I suppose my heart got the best of me and I couldn't stand the thought of her freezing or starving to death. Yesterday morning, underneath a bench on my breezeway, I noticed feathers and discovered a dead bird...it broke my heart! Now I realize that I'm to blame! Birds and cats don't mix and neither would this cat and my 14 yr. old peek-a-poo. I want her to be safe but I fear for the safety of my back yard birds. She seems to have made herself at home...what can I do at this point? Your suggestions will be most appreciated. Donna

Hi Donna and Tammy, I've only read a little beyond the Canon press release on their new (not yet available) SX ultra-zoom models. But I think the jury is still out on these cameras. The SX-1 will have a new sensor which might offer real image quality improvements. But the SX-1 will be more expensive than previous Sx-IS models, and currently there are no plans to sell it in the US. The SX10 model is apparently a bit less of a technical advance. But perhaps more importantly, the move to a 20X zoom lens in these new models may actually be a step backward rather than forward for those of us who would use the camera for birding. The maximum aperture for this new lens when zoomed is f5.7 (very slow compared to the f3.5 of the Sx-IS's 12X lens). This means even less light at the long end (where our birds live), and thus slower shutter speeds, which is already a big limitation in all superzooms of every brand. Soooo... Personally, I wouldn't pre-order just yet. I will be very interested to read the reviews once this new camera is available... but... We now use both the S3 and the S5, and imo they are both great cameras for the money, but neither is any significant advance over the other (or the S2). I have my doubts that the SX-10 will offer birders any real improvement over the Sx-IS models equipped with a good TC lens. I could be wrong. hth, Kenn :)

Not sure but it seems to happen mostly with pictures taken on an I phone.

My cousin and her husband are staying put west of Ft. Lauderdale. They stayed home for hurricane Andrew in 1992 and survived with no great loss. Close friends in Orlando are also staying home. My brother, who works for FEMA, has been in Houston since the waters started to recede. He has worked for FEMA for over a decade, so he has seen his share of hurricane damage in TX, LA, FL and beyond (he worked in NYC after Sandy). But he says the devastation from hurricane Harvey is unlike anything he has ever seen. Donna, sounds like you are as ready as you possibly can be. I'll add you to my thoughts and prayers for my relatives and friends mentioned above.
