a question about chickadees:

i have a pair of chickadees that frequent my oak tree in my back yard. i ahve this ornamental birdhouse in the garden that they have been both going in and out of for a couple of weeks now.

they go in and they are pecking at the wood inside the house (like woodpeckers) and then they spit out the shavings when they fly out. i don't think that they are nesting in there, but curious as to what they are doing.

i saw them carrying nesting material to another location, but not to that house.

they have been checking out all of my birdhouses in the last couple of weeks but they never settle on any of them; however they do freqent my feeders.
