Check the timer for the drip system. If the power has gone off, they often reset for 5 minutes a day, every day. A more reasonable timing is an hour or so, twice a week. 5. We don't do much except weed and mow for the next couple of months ... and PLAN. Late September kicks off the gardening season (like April in CO). Work on identifying the plants, decide what you want to change, if anything, and don't kill yourself in the heat. I have heard contradictory information regarding tubes placed in the ground when planting new trees. It seems to make sense in that water could then get to the bottom of the root ball easily. Contradictory views are that this will erode the soil under the root ball and cause the tree to ultimately collapse. But where would that soil go? If this is viable, it would also make sense to poke some holes along the 4 foot tube, maybe about 8 to 12 inches apart for water to pass thru at intermittant levels. Does anyone have any experience with this, or advice?

That is beautiful. You know, even if we wanted to write that kind of obituary today, the newspapers would probably edit it. When my daughter Gillian died I was working as a newspaper reporter. My own paper printed Jill's obituary as I wrote it, of course, but a larger city paper informed me that if I wanted to mention my daughter's niece I'd have to pay $285. Jill adored her 10-year-old niece, and vice versa, so I paid it. But I thought it was more than a little nuts. And more than a little sad.
