Excellent news! Neighbor called to say that bird had left the homemade "nest"- it was sitting on a coneflower. We watched it as we weren't sure if it was strong enough to fly. When I moved around to look at the "nest" - it was perched on a near-by shrub - the bird took off! We think we've spotted its true nest in a nearby sycamore tree. Maybe the bird stunned itself this a.m. by flying into sidelight of neighbor's door- the door is about 12-15 feet from where we originally found it.

This from Judy. She has updated the page. So far, so good with Boris. Her whole site is a joy. "There are some other hummer pictures and info on my home page, but you have to wade through a lot of krap (scroll down a long ways, that is) to get to that section... www.netpath.net/~jbarbour I just updated the page a bit. We were pretty sad that we weren't allowed to care for Boris while he recovers, but the wildlife rehabilitator assures us that she will come here to release Boris in 10 days, if he recovers as expected. Thanks for adding the link! I will keep everyone posted on our small friend's progress!~ Judy" PS: The syringe 'feeder' trick works wonderfully! Rachel - hope you get your power restored soon! We were without power for 11 days after Charley. Hope your cell towers have battery backup, too! We are breezy today with gusts of about 15mph. Last night was windy. It blew over a desert rose and a couple of agaves, but at least it didn't blow them into the pool! Lots of palm fronds down. Charlie and I went out and dragged some to the curb for neighbors this morning. My son is in Tampa. He got 8 inches of rain - and I guess it's still coming down. (He now has silk plants! LOL) He's near the university and USF is closed today due to ongoing rain and wind. He did say the roads to work were good for him, although half the people called in due to flooding. Good luck to you Hookilau! I hope Hermine doesn't park off the coast and bring you too much rain and wind!

That is some creative thinking! I'm glad it worked.
