Mystery Bird???

Can anyone help identify what type of bird this is, it's just been sitting in our garden tree for about 4 days, and is unusually tame and lets you go up to it. At first, for that reason we thought it could be a type of homing pigeon but aren't sure after seeing it closer up. Can anyone help? What is it and why is it just sitting in our tree?

It looks like an escaped domesticated Ringed Turtle Dove. They don't do well in the wild, so you may have to help it find a home.
When you take a photo for an ID it helps to be able to see more of the bird

I have got a good photo of the whole bird, and that image had to be cropped down because it was too big, so if you know how to put the whole photo up that would be great

This really gets us down into the nitty-gritty of finely detailed plumage differences. I ruled out female Rose-breasted Grosbeak: the bill is too small, brown cheek patch not large and prominent enough, iris not big enough, brown on throat (rather than the white throat of the female RBGR), white upperwing bars are actual bars (whereas as the female RBGR shows white spotted bars). Female RBGR also show a more defined white supercilium. RBGR don't show pink legs. The bird in the photo looks the part of a female Purple Finch.

Try looking up the sound of a titmouse and a Carolina wren. They have various songs, and be sure to listen to them all. (All about birds has good audio stuff). I don't think you'd find either of those birds at your feeder, but they might be close by.

There is probably some imaging software already on your computer, or you can download free stuff-I use Picasa 3, or use editing software from your digital camera CD which includes editing/cropping/sizing options

Could also be a Eurasian Collared Dove. They've set up house keeping here on the northern California coast (they have arrived). I've seen their nests in a palm tree behind the church.
