Bohemian Waxwing...

I'm posting these for my wife, she shot them with her canon point & shoot.

A warm spill got them bathing in the puddles in front of the house,...then they get very territorial and yell to each other.

A grumpy looking group of birds you've got there Konrad. Nice pictures your wife took.

Wow, you and Joan are lucky to see large flocks of these birds! The Waxwings are so beautiful. It's funny that they are obviously very cooperative and group-oriented, and then they get a little grumpy with each other in a big puddle!

These guys where sitting next to our mailbox on a Russian Olive, I was surprised, first time I have seen this,...... taking pictures from the car. I still have a bird to identify from that day. Up on a high voltage tower, there was a snowy owl sitting, when I wanted to take a picture, a bird came, what appeared to me a Raven, then the owl took off! But this black bird is still a mystery to me! Is it something else? It didn't croak like a raven, it kind of squealed, kind like those small swamp black bird. What do you think it is. Sorry, the pics are not too clear, it was a very far distance. Konrad Turning it's head, you can see a little white under the feather.

Beautiful pictures and waxwings are probably my favorite bird. However, these appear to be Cedar waxwings, not Bohemian. Yes, Bohemian are larger, but they also swould have two white patches on their wings and a russet patch under their tail. Thank you all! >>Do you have a telephoto lens to get those bird pics? I don't have much luck with just my camera getting the birds. I'm probably not patient enough. Yes They say, a birding lens should be at least 500 mm,...would be nice! The one used here, [from dear Santa] canon 70 - 200 mm F2.8 IS and 2X Extender, [not the first pic] going to my Rebel XT. All great, but I particularly love the second shot of the two birds trash-talking in the puddle.

Didn't the same thing happen last year? You were off somewhere and your wife got to see and photograph the waxwing invasion. I could just imagine the announcement "Oh, by the way, Konrad, I saw a few nice birds today..."

It's a canon powershot SX40 HS, has a amazing reach of 800mm. Also good for macro shots and general photography.
She got it for Christmas, I.M.O. best camera for the money.

Clair...You're right on with the wording on the second picture!
It's also my favored. Yes, last year she had a blast too.

Have a couple more..

Taking a moonshot with this camera,......expensive lens would be needed for a SLR Camera
