Bohemian Waxwing...

I'm posting these for my wife, she shot them with her canon point & shoot.

A warm spill got them bathing in the puddles in front of the house,...then they get very territorial and yell to each other.

A grumpy looking group of birds you've got there Konrad. Nice pictures your wife took.

Wow, you and Joan are lucky to see large flocks of these birds! The Waxwings are so beautiful. It's funny that they are obviously very cooperative and group-oriented, and then they get a little grumpy with each other in a big puddle!

Oh, I'm so jealous of your grosbeaks and redpolls, Pudge! I think my neighbor is feeding too well, because the grosbeaks are always hanging around there and I'm lucky if they pop by for a brief visit. I did get some Evening Grosbeaks in for a good feed this spring and again this fall. That was a thrill to spot them, as I hadn't seen them before. I haven't seen a redpoll for about 3 years now. I find them so cute. The last time I saw a flock of them was early in the spring/late winter. Do they stay around all winter? Someone told me once that they cycle...and I don't remember why...was it their migration pattern maybe? I'd be interested to know if someone had any thoughts on that. I also had my first White Breasted Nuthatch yesterday! Another cutie and fun to watch...very vocal. He was still here this evening. RE: salt and birds...I'm thinking they probably require certain amounts naturally and find it somewhere, but with bird feeder fast-food that contains salt, they might eat alot of it because its easy to get and therefore get too much salt. Sound familiar? ie. potato chips! Gil, I wonder if the nuthatches would like your suet bars? Toots

Beautiful pictures and waxwings are probably my favorite bird. However, these appear to be Cedar waxwings, not Bohemian. Yes, Bohemian are larger, but they also swould have two white patches on their wings and a russet patch under their tail. What a wonderful experience that must have been! I get Cedar Waxwings on the Crabapples and Elderberries in back, but never more than a dozen or two, and usually a few at a time.

All great, but I particularly love the second shot of the two birds trash-talking in the puddle.

Didn't the same thing happen last year? You were off somewhere and your wife got to see and photograph the waxwing invasion. I could just imagine the announcement "Oh, by the way, Konrad, I saw a few nice birds today..."

Beautiful photos, yet, please do let us know what point and shoot camera your wife uses, it takes wonderful pictures!

It's a canon powershot SX40 HS, has a amazing reach of 800mm. Also good for macro shots and general photography.
She got it for Christmas, I.M.O. best camera for the money.

Clair...You're right on with the wording on the second picture!
It's also my favored. Yes, last year she had a blast too.

Have a couple more..

Taking a moonshot with this camera,......expensive lens would be needed for a SLR Camera
