Hummingbirds arriving

Can anyone tell me when to expect hummers in southern New England? I seem to get my feeders out a little late. So this year I want to feed the early arrivals, as they probably need the nurishment the most. I thought it might be as soon as the flowers come out on the oaks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Referring to the Ruby-throated Hummingbird Migration Map helps me annually to determine approximately when to place nectar feeders out for the hummers (will include link to Migration Map site).

Being a resident of southwestern Ohio, I often elect to place nectar feeders out when hummers are sighted approaching Kentucky/Ohio border, anticipating arrival of the scouts - who arrive first to establish a feeding territory for those to follow. Note on the map that coastal Virginia sighting was posted yesterday - they are heading our way! http://www.hummingbirds.net/map.html

I checked and the links to the videos work. It might be something to do with your browser settings. I think you need flash player installed. You would just go to the adobe website to get that. I think all youtube videos use the flash player.

I am sure ours are only males, they all have Ruby Red Throats. The females follow a week later. We have been feeding them for 24 years now, and it's the same pattern each year. Glad you have females North of Muskegon, you might have a male there somewhere. We are in Livingston County, across the state from you. To attract Orioles hang up an Oriole feeder, buy some plastic neon pink ribbon 1/2" at a hardware store, hang it near the feeder and put out a bowl of grape jelly. The color of the neon/pink attracts Orioles and Hummingbirds too.

Gosh, this seems too early to me! I better get DH on the ball, he is the bird feeder man.....Orioles don't stay long for me either. I just saw my cheap brand of grape jelly in the frig and DH started to use it....I told him get the blackberry jelly....that was for the birds. I have the red flowering quince but it needs to be cut down and let grow back. There is so much dead in it that it doesn't have much color. The resident Blue Birds are back in the West yard. I think they nest in a hole in the tree over there and I think one may be building in a house on the East side...hope so. I scared it yesterday when I mowed that area.

If you click on the dots, you can view the details (although most just say 'Ruby Throated Hummingbird sighted). It's great! They also cover Rufous Hummingbirds, Robins, Earthworms, Bald Eagles, and a bunch more! It's all about tracking spring's journey north.

Yes,those are great links for migration maps. They are reliable.
