Has anybody had any outbreaks of salmonella poisoning in flock birds this winter? I've got a (probably) dead crow near my birdfeeder and wondering if there have been any reports. I live in southern NH. I did have an outbreak back in 2009 when the redpolls/siskins irrupted (never any dead crows), but since then I have been all clear. I hate to see this, as this guy really was struggling today. I came within 5' of him. He was trying to eat and drink. Then near dusk I saw two other crows swoop at him. Were they saying 'dont come back to the roost and get the rest of us sick'? It seemed obvious that they knew something was very wrong with him. I can report him to animal control but usually they dont want to hear reports of dead crows until the EEE and West Nile season... which is not yet.
