I know it's late, considering the date of your post. But, if the duck's still around, how is he? I know the healing capabilities of birds can be great. Just keeping it clean and tended is very helpful. Also, using one of those little cheap wooden paintbrushes to "paint" on some honey, raw is best, mixed with a few drops of water to the wounds daily is amazing. Honey is a great wound treatment. If he'll leave it alone, a little splint made with popsickle sticks and narrow masking tape, not too tightly, may help. If you can, change it daily when you use the honey.

As long as the muscovy is not doing any damage to your other ducks you shouldn't worry about it. Of course they can physically mate with your ducks, but I do not believe they can make babies with them (I'm not positive about that, though). They can fly, and they sometimes roost on the pasture fence, in the barn rafters, in trees or on my back porch rail." As far as his behavior goes, he will always be different than the rest of your flock. I think he sounds pretty cute.

Thanks for sharing your duck story 13 years ago. We just moved into an apartment with a duck pond 50' from our back porch and it's got all different kinds of ducks and geese. The ducks are nicer and there are different ones, ratty ones, mean ones, wussy ones, skinny ones, fat ones...very often a new gang of teenie tiny ones under mom's feets. They're always fighin for territory or humpin each other. It is quite the backyard reality show. The geese are another story, there is this one that looks different than the rest and he's always causing trouble with the ducks. He's the alpha goose and he doesn't let anyone forget it for a minute. Somebody needs to mess his 6.75lb feathered butt up. Alpha goose pic included.

I had a couple of pink flamingos in my yard for awhile. I named them 'Tongue' and 'Cheek'. They finally died. I think of,embarrassment.
