Just to let you Buckeyes (yeh, I'm really one :^0))))) know the vultures will be in Hinckley in plenty of time for the big celebration. There are large kettles of them over the mountains of NC now going up late morning and wending their way north... such a special bird!

Whats the "big celebration" there? We get a flock of about 20-30 every year! Love em!

Lisa, you know how we look for 'anything' to celebrate spring... and in n. Ohio, spring is still a looooong way off!!! On March 15 (or I believe now that it's become such a celebration maybe it's on the Sat. that's closest to that date, I'm not sure) there is a BIG celebration to welcome in spring when the "buzzards" return to Hinckley. (Yes, most years it is within a couple of days of that date that the bulk of them return... kinda like the swallows to Capistrano... LOL or my hummers that are here within a day one way or the other of Apr 15 most years ... and such a more welcome site than the IRS deadline... LOL)

If you get a chance to visit the Roses of Legend and Romance garden in Wooster (an Ohio state facility), you will see many fabulous roses that are definitely hardy. Some are Canadian Explorer roses, and many others are old roses. Well worth a trip. They offered quite a few roses for sale last year at their first ever open garden event in early June, and I'm hopeful they'll do it again next year. I'm from California, but was in Ohio visiting family, so went to the event and drooled over the roses but knew I couldn't legally take them home. You would have no such restrictions! Anita

I think that was the coldest and wettest swap I've ever attended -- but it was as much fun as any I've been to! Big ups to the organizers -- excellent job! I think the "side trades" table was particularly inspired -- it saved a lot of time running around looking for a lot of people you'd never actually met, while still giving you the *option* of running around and looking for people if you wanted to! Wonderful plants, wonderful people, and would whoever made that lovely red apple dish give me the recipe? If you didn't get any, they were thick apple rings, maybe 1/2 or so; bright red, and sweet. But not sticky, syrupy sweet, just straight up apple taste. I thought they were going to be the standard 'apples in syrup with cinnamon red hots' but they were fantastic! Thanks all for a lovely time - now, who's going to plant these things for me?

Hi everybody, Sorry I didn't get these pictures posted earlier, 'puter has been acting testy and I still don't have email working, but at least I'm back to posting! Here's some pics... Margie, I brought the Chocolate Dip, just love the foliage. They come true from seed, I started a pack of 20 seeds over the winter and 4 came up but one died from overwatering and I planted out 2. It's an outdoor plant, supposedly perennial, full sun to part shade. I don't know how it will do with reseeding, I was afraid of the name Hawkweed so I made sure to collect as much of the seed as I could! Hope you enjoy it!

AAAHH, yes I know the feeling here in Mi. I looked at my calendar from last year ours arrived March 25th. I have been tracking all the arrivals, nests, etc for years now. Hummers are always April 29-May 1St here. The first thing I celebrate is snow fleas (that I just spotted today)!
