I'm so confused

I have a nesting pair with 5 eggs incubating. Suddenly another female showed up and the 2 ladies got into a battle royal. I broke it up as I don't want either of them injured.

Now the pair has also laid claim to another nestbox. It's on the other side of the house, and has a nest started in it. BUT - I have seen both females go into both houses, although not at the same time. (I can tell them apart.) I have only seen the 1 male.

I have thought maybe the new female is a daughter from last year who is not old enough to attract a male. Does that make sense? What does make sense?
