Quilting requires many skills that need practice. Take some classes and read some general quilting books. As you develop skills, your quilts will look better and you will feel better! My first foray into real quilting came with the book "Jacket Jazz." The book taught about 30 different techniques. I bought a cutting mat, a rotary cutter and a ruler and it was the start of a lifetime obsession. Once you have the general knowledge about "how to," you can branch out to art quilts for your walls. Another tip...find your local quilt guild where you can do workshops. Use your local Brother dealer fabric store to learn more about your machine. A really good sewing machine is an absolute necessity to minimize frustration! I love my Janome. I'm just reminiscing here...have fun with it!

Well, in the end we went to an appliance store in Boston which had oh-so-many ranges on the floor. After comparing several models we ended up jumping up our price bracket to the professional lines. Our top three were the SKS, JennAir, and the Thermador 4 burner. I can't believe I did it, but I bought the Thermador and I bleeping LOVE it. I'm more of a cook than a baker (although one daughter's a culinary student, the other bakes all the time). If I were a baker I probably would've chosen the JennAir - they have an amazing rebate right now. I NEVER thought I would have spent so much on a stove, but I did -- and incredibly -- I don't regret it. Best of luck in your searches!

Odors are just one component of cooking ventilation. Heat, Odors, Grease, Steam, and Smoke are all what is removed by good ventilation. Those “indoor smog” pollutants affect your indoor air quality negatively. Having them stay in your home affects your health. Multiple studies show that ventilation of cooking products improves that indoor air quality and keeps you healthier. While a retrofit situation may not be able to strive for the ideal, in 85% of my designed from scratch kitchens, the hood will always be specified to be larger than the cooking zone. It is ALWAYS discussed as the ideal, with any client being fully informed and signing off on the consequences of any other choice. When there is is no other choice but to have the same size, planning for it to be as deep as possible is the best solution to limiting the width. In all cases, it is the cooking appliance below and cooking style that determines the CFM needed for ventilation. You will have a low number and a high number based off of that cooking appliance. A high BTU cooking appliance will always have a much higher low number than a consumer grade appliance. Cooking style will increase that base number of the acceptable CFM span. It will never decrease that number. A Wolf range in a kitchen with someone who uses it as an ornament will still need a 600 CFMhood above, merely based on it’s potential. If that potential is lived up to by it’s cook, then that top CFM number will increase. It is the choice of a high BTU pro-style range that has the consequences of requiring that expensive high CFM ventilation system and expensive make up air system. They are inseparable from each other once the choice of cooking appliance is made. It is a package requirement, even though most appliance store salesmen will never discuss that need due to their fear of losing a sale. Instead, they should focus on gaining a sale if they approach the needs for the vent and MUA with the customer. Ventahood or Broan are both good choices. But you need to get with your HVAC specialist to discuss that MUA system. That has to do with climate, local codes that are possible stricter than national codes, and several other details, in addition to the hood power.

Where is the kitchen designer for the gigantic kitchen? ......... "I'm happy with my builders color choices and design suggestion on my home as well as other builds she as done" Why are you crowd sourcing opinion? For what it is worth? All oak on the cabinets, upper and lower - black on the island. I don't love an upper lower split in color or stain. ......and it usually results in a finish fight with cabinet hardware, as one will always look best on of the finishes and rarely great on BOTH colors. As in.......champagne bronze will look prettier on black, than it will on OAK. If you must split it? Black lowers /oak uppers and please skip !!! the panel on the fridge and let it be stainless exposed. Same style hardware, and use matte black and champagne. Oak on the island with matte black hardware. Paint on walls? That is something you test on site, in your own light. I wouldn't pick it online. The best way to decide is to take the most visible kitchen wall in an elevated drawing, and get yourself some colored pencils.....: )
