I'm so confused! Gas or induction??
Comments (16)lilyfreak, i was in exactly your position one year ago starting research on changing over to gas. after i spoke with my contractor, i was dissuaded by the invasiveness of the conversion, at least at my home (the kitchen has a flat roof over it). then, supposedly, the city would require me to run some kind of test to see if my lines could hold the extra gas pressure (for got what the test is called). the architect said that most older homes fail the test, ets, etc... and i just didn't want this renovation to "go there!" after many months of research i settled on a miele induction. i mean, i looked at them all. i was not set on a miele, or an induction, at that time. i was looking for a 30" with at least one oversized burner, and WITHOUT touch controls (hard to find nowadays). it all came together best in this model miele below. for the styling i wanted, the miele had the largest burner, and i had to compromise on touch controls (but so much simpler than the wolf and viking, if memory serves correctly. the thermador had nice styling, but i don't think it had a 30" with a big enough burner.) remember, if you have an induction, you have the flexibilty to use a small pan on a large burner, without the wasted energy and heat of a regualr electric burner. Miele KM5753 Induction 30in. Glass Cooktop w/ Touch Control MIELE 26575350USA 1 $2,249.00 $2,249.00 plus, i got the miele masterchef single oven for underneath. unfortunately, i'm waiting on countertops still, so haven't yet tested either out, sorry....See MoreBest reliable 30 inch slide-in all gas range
Comments (4)$2500 is tough to get a quality pro range. Bertazzoni is a good look for the money and will give you better performance than the Jenn-Airs and Kitchenaids. I would suggest Capital if you can get it for that price. Thermador is normally much more for a new one. 5 Star, American and Blue Star are a little new to most markets and could be tougher for service. If you can stretch your budget buy a Viking - by far the best out there!!!...See MorePlease help me choose my range!!! I'm so confused...
Comments (50)I have a viking 30 inch vdsc that has been installed for about a year and a half and am happy with it. I chose this range because I wanted a black range and I wanted dual fuel, we have to use a lp tank and did not want to have both the range top and oven dependent on the tank. I am a cook-something-quick-and-easy-that-my-picky-kids-and-picky-husband-will-eat-5-days-a-week cook so did not need a super high powered cook top, I almost never go above med-high. I do use the simmer a lot and it is not the best so I bought a simmer plate to help get an evenly low cooking surface. The burners are closed and have been very easy to clean but I have not had any overflows or cooking mishaps that would get anywhere near that part of the burners. The black, shiny surface that is below the grates of the viking does show every little bit of dirt and I do clean it frequently using soap and water and a dry rag to buff out water streaks. The oven seems to take a bit longer to preheat than my old stove and because it uses the broiler to help preheat you cannot stick items in before the preheat is done or you will burn the tops (I still sometimes put items in early but keep them on the bottom rack.) The oven also cooks a little differently than I am used to, cannot really explain how or why but it does leave most items moister which is nice. If you have concerns with how a viking cooks I would recommend finding a dealer that offers demonstrations, the dealer I bought from had demos all of the time....See More30 inch slide-in gas ranges: Kitchen Aid vs. Kenmore Pro vs ?
Comments (0)We are renovating our not-large kitchen and have settled upon a 30-inch slide-in range to get better pot capacity on the stove without moving to a 36 inch. I hate to cook - really, I dread it - so I'm thinking that a true pro-style (wolf, viking) is just not worth the $$ or hassle of maintenance. The Kitchen Aid range seems sturdy, but I haven't seen it perform. I've also heard that there is a KA Pro style range, that might or might not be worth the extra $$. Today, we saw a Kenmore range that seems perhaps the teensiest bit nicer than the KA ... but again, not sure on performance. Any feedback? Any other brands or styles I should be considering? Also - worth it to get dual fuel or just gas? Will I hate cooking less? (one of the things I hate is that my gas oven never seems to cook things in the time the recipe says, and yes I have an oven thermometer)...See Morechiquita177
