Eggs!

This is my second year for bluebirds - last year the eggs were infertile. (After the pair abandoned them I candled them and the were empty)

So -- I was very happy they (or another pair, I have no idea) came back. Nobody seems to be bothering them. We plugged up the hole in the big sycamore where starlings were nesting and that made a huge difference, as did moving the birdfeeder to the other side of the house.

Anyway, yesterday was the first I'd checked for eggs, and there are five! yay.

Thanks! and our school's financial secretary has five also.

I used a spooker last year but this year haven't yet. We moved the bird feeders and plugged up holes in a big tree that starlings were nesting in. It has made a huge difference.

First I'm going to make one for a friend who gets blues every year starting a nest then they leave and the HOSPS take over.

WOW what a great find, I can't tell you what to do about the eggs on the leafs, I'm new to raising cats. I have been looking and looking for monarch cats and have only found 4 and one died, but our first one came out of his cyrisalis this morning. on the other hand we have had plenty of BST cats. good luck with all the eggs michelle

They aren't identical if you look at them very closely. Your lady bug eggs should be smooth in appearance. Your cabbage worm eggs should have little ridges. You may need a magnifying glass to help you see the ridges. I'll find and link an image of a cabbage worm egg that has been magnified to show the ridges. Dody, Many insect eggs look alike and it can be very hard to distinguish one type from another. If you really want to know, pluck the leaf, put it in a jar with air holes punched in the lid, and see what hatches. If they are lady beetle eggs, you'll have little grayish larvae that look sort of like tiny alligators. They do not look at all like lady beetles at this point. If they are caterpillars of any kind, that's bad news for your broccoli and other cole crops! Dawn
