That would be considered a great collectable in U.S. as small cabinets that served a purpose are desired. The "nails" are for spools of thread, the bins for needles, buttons, seam ripper, thimbles & other sewing items. It probably has antique value. Looks like a hook to hang your favorite & best scissors so they are hidden. Save the nails if you didn't bend them all up so it could be "restored". Don't paint it, just clean & enjoy! Might check to see if it has value as antique where you are. I would love to have it in my sewing room. Wonderful find! Jan

Chena, we grew Passi's down there some 20+ years ago north of the Austin area and that is what got me started. Matter of fact I brought a few with me, this stated the Passi movement here. Yep they stated that they wouldn't grow up here, now I laugh when I see them growing. I have a couple photos of the B. sang Inca Queen as I was shocked at the size but this person is very private so I'm really thinking it's best not to share without asking. Please check with me in the spring on the B. Sangs as I'm sure I can spare a few. Our goal here is to have at least a couple dozen on hand. Funny thing is that we set his plant close to the driveway but in the shade of the others and it took off like crazy. It will be interesting to see these bloom. Most of our others are out back and smaller.

Hi! Sounds like you are off to a beautiful Garden! I am not sure what type of seeds these are, are they comercial grade, garanteed to grow true to the description, or are they someones home grown seed? I have grown both Daisys and Dahlias from seed in the past, and I have a full window full of more this year! I found i had terrible germination with the Dahlia seeds last year, but this year they have been great! (Different brand). The daisys though, they just about grow themselves! I like using peat pellets, because they are easy and you can start a whole bunch in such a small area, providing good lighting ect is a lot easier when they are condensed! For the daisys, I would suggest putting 2-3 seeds just under the surface of the dirt, and keep moist, but not "wet". They should come up real quick, may see some in a few days, They should all be up in 2 weeks. What you do is grow on the plants, then pinch out the weaker ones after you know they are going to take off. For the dahlias, the same advice can be followed, however I may suggest planting them one to a pellet, and then if they don't germinate, you can use the pellet for something else Now, you don't "have" to use pellets, but the same placement can be followed. I do this because I would hate to waste a dahlia by pinching it out! And I am a little cheap!! One thing you want to look out for is damping off, a fungus that attacks the base of new seedlings. I find if I don't treat my seedlings, they grow for a couple weeks, look fantastic, I wake up the next morning and BAM, I have lost 30-90% of them! I use a product called "No Damp" but i have heard Chamomile tea in a spray bottle works well. With a lot of seeds I have found heating them from the bottom can help germination. One thing I do with stubborn seeds if a few weeks have gone by and I don't see any sprouts is I place them on a rack, over a heating register. Others use a heating pad. But, with these varieties it should be unnessisary. The biggest downfall may be lighting, I suggest getting some floresent lights that can be adjusted to keep them the right temp / correctly exposed, or hold off on starting them until they can be moved outside in short order... The most important thing, is have fun!

Dollars invested now will take away from the dollars needed when you do the more intensive redo. Repeat. A bit of "happy" now means dollars taken away from the eventual project. Understand delayed gratification and make it your friend. With that in mind, my suggestions would be to DIY paint the cabinets. However, with the light counters and floors, painting them white would just wash everything out. Since this will be a short term solution, I'd be adventurous. Maybe a creamy yellow that could stand up to the counters. Maybe bolder. Do you have a favorite color? Replace any appliances that die with the size and finish of the ones that you want to end up with. Take the wallpaper down. That's it. Save your money and efforts for the more extensive remodel that is coming down the road. If you start down the "only" road of "only" replacing the counters, or "only" trying to put in a drawer stack, or any other "only", well, you're getting perilously close to spending your "eventually" money. Things are interlinked, and it snowballs. Stay away from it all going down hill and gathering momentum! And maybe move forward the date of the gut to 5 years from now. And in between now and then, develop your DIY abilities to cut the cost of the remodel.
