lots of bluebird action

hi everybody! hope you are all having a good spring!!

i have one box with a completed nest, no eggs as of yesterday.

another pair is building in my back yard box and i think this may be the same pair i've had for the past couple of years because the male is doing something he's always done, which i find strange...he will occasionally fly into the box and remove some of the nesting material. usually it's just a piece or two of grass.

has anybody else ever witnessed this behavior? for some reason, he sometimes doesn't like her choice of "furniture". if it were me, i'd tell him to leave me the heck alone or build it himself!! :D

Hey, Girlfriend!!! How the heck are you? Yeah, males are always trying to pretend that they have a say. She'll just put it back when he's not looking!! No offense to all the men on this forum . . .

Howdy! I have been waiting for an update over in the pets forum, I thought for sure you would have a new furbaby by now! Anyway good to see you here! Glad your Blues are getting settled in for the season!

thanks pjames that makes perfect sense. I put a ligt near there hoping to encourage them to move on up... I have a while before I need the VC so I am in no hurry. It was neat to see all the paper transformed. Most was gone. It was covered with a thick layer of shredded newspaper and cardboard. I could see some paper but it was mostly black vc lookign stuff. I sure hope I did not kill the adults. I did not see any but I also did not dig down at all. I am resisting the urge to dump the whole thing and look around. ;) Karen

Thanks for the reminder Ray. While we never let our cat outdoors, a lot of the neighbors do. I have a good sized (8") wobbling stovepipe guard and have never had a cat, raccoon, or snake get into one of my boxes. The conduit pipe and good guard are extremely important.

Thank you Kendra! And that nest continues to have additions. It's pretty tall now, I think they just have to line it. By the way, some how, at my 2nd site, I had to AGAIN trap another HOSP, used my drawstring bag, and somehow I managed to let it escape! I was so angry! Wasn't careful enough. Hope the %^&t4d doesn't come back!!

hey cath! i'm doing well, VERY busy! thought "busy" would lessen since i'm no longer working full time but that's a myth!

howdy, lisa!! LOL, no new pets but don't count me out yet. had underground fencing put in recently so i'm almost ready to jump into fostering for great dane rescue. :)

the blues are still building in the back yard box but this morning, of all things, a WREN showed up! it's WAY early for wrens to be here and since there hasn't been an egg, i have not put the wren guard on. now, it's a wait & see game. grrrr!!!

didn't get a chance to check my other box for an egg but will do that today.
