spring is coming

I happened to look out my patio door and there is about 50 Robins hopping around my yard and a red-headed Wood pecker in a tree.
I am in zone 7.

How wonderful!!! Hooray! Perhaps in another month and a half they will be in my yard. Hope so.....

I don't get the summer type birds till late april. but then I live in the foothills and spring is slow to get here

the actual bloom is ephemeral ... short lived .. some years.. you just lose them ... so be it .. its what we deal with in the colder north ... it should have no impact on the plant itself ... and it will bloom next year ... sometimes.. i used to cut a few pieces.. to bring in to enjoy. for a few days in the house ... up close and personal ... ken ps: .. oh berries ... you will have to wait and see .. if the flowers were germinated... you might still get the berries ... who knows...

Seil, those are beautiful! I got my first very recently as well! Monday, March 9! These are always my first to come up every year, and they have even bloomed in February here in my South Michigan Z5b garden. I believe them to be Iris reticulata and they are so very blue! I need snowdrops and croci as well. I've gone ahead and pruned all of my roses since they're beginning to stir as well! Steven

Well, even though accurate long-range weather forecasts are pretty much in vain, mine shows daytime highs in the 60s most of the time by March, and pretty much steadily increasing from here to there. Of course, the lowest we've seen so far is one night of 17F, and a few 20F nights. It's been a rather mild and uneventful early winter, and I really hope it continues. It's cool enough that most things will get needed chilling in easily enough, but mild enough that winter flowering things weren't covered in ice (but once so far). With maples typically flowering in February and the very first daffodil leaves becoming visible about now, things seem to be on schedule for an early spring?

@Lyban zone 4 . Its so easy and lower butter but still very creamy. Lemon Curd 2/3c fresh squeezed lemon juice 3/4c white sugar 3 lrg eggs pinch salt Whisk together very well. Place mixture in top of double boiler over barely simmering water. Whisk gently continuously for 7-10 min til mixture thickens /160 degrees. Remove from heat and gently fold in zest and 4 Tbsp cold butter. Immediately place in 1/2 pint jars and screw on lids . Cool and freeze. Will keep years this way. I use organic regular yellow lemons. I used to use Meyer but we prefer regular yellow now. You can use any container that is freezer proof . we never thaw we just scoop out and keep in freezer. Very yummy and thaws quickly on foods. Probably a migrating flock, I sometimes see this many in the fall when they head south.

So THAT is where all of my robins went! Lol! ;)

Last year we had robins galore. A pair made a nest under our gazebo. I was putting out live mealworms for them. These got a little too pricey, so after the babies were fully fledged I downgraded to the dried ones you can get at Lowes. They weren't accepted as readily but they ate them anyway.

This year I plan to order a large quantity of live ones and see if I can start 'farming' some of my own. I found a website that sells them but am wondering if anyone here knows where to get them cheaper. I'll start a new thread and see what others say.
