I'd agree, Garden Valley is more likely zone 5. How long have you lived there? Have you recorded the low temps during the winter? Here in Boise it has not been below zero for over 10 years, which would put us in zone 7, but there is a history of below zero temps, so zone 6 is a safer guideline. My peas and beans always grow pretty well - I do not fertilize them at all since they are legumes and fix their own nitrogen from the air. They don't do well with too much nitrogen in the soil. The problem I have with peas is that once summer arrives (any day now) it gets too hot and the peas get starchy and the plants die. They can't take the heat in Boise, but you may have better luck in GV. For everything else, I use an organic fertilizer from Zamzows called nutri-rich (a 4-3-3 +calcium fertilizer) in the spring when I till the beds. After that I don't fertilize much at all, just use mulch and compost and the occasional shot of Zamzows Thrive (Organic 5-5-3 fertilizer). The exceptions are my blueberries and azaleas, which get MirAcid.

Yeah, it gets to be a lot indoors, but luckily my family doesnt mind too much (well they mind, but they know how much it means to me!) and my dog is pretty good with not eating any plants (but she does love to get into the garbage). I will definitely post some indoor pics when the time comes! Thanks Island! Yup! I live in NYC! Some plants are in pots, some are in the ground. A few, like the palms in the ground, survive the winter with some protection (I just put some christmas lights and a garbage bin over them). Others like the elephant ears and bananas are easy to bring in and store for the winter. Some of the plants cant be dug up (like the coconut palm and tropical palms) so those are in pots and get put by a sunny window! The plumerias go dormant so they are pretty easy to keep indoors, but the large one might not fit indoors this year! The Passionvine, cannas, and ginger are hardy. The purple plants under the Elephant ears are called Purple Heart. They will be evergreen in your climate which is a huge plus! They look good up until temperatures get into the upper 20s, then they die back. They are hardy to zone 8 and up, but they come back for me since they are in a good microclimate. They are a little invasive, but easy to control and I think they are worth growing for sure! Thanks for looking everyone! -Alex

If you went and got this information, you in all likelihood WOULD NOT need anyone else to guess for you and risk wasting more of your money if they get it wrong. In the shop this is information that a tech has to get in order to even begin to analyze the problem you described. With these details in hand, the tech could then focus on the system that is the source of the trouble. An example would be if the fuel pressure is below specifications, then from there the tech could measure the power and ground circuits for voltage drops, and then measure the current flowing through and the speed of the pump in its circuit in order to determine if the problem is in the pump or the wiring harness, or possibly even if there is an issue both. With fundamental testing routines, this can easily be determined. (FWIW this example is only one of the group of reasons for low fuel pressure, there easily could be other reasons) You allowed people to guess and throw parts, this has cost you money that you may, or may not have needed to spend. At this point we will never know for sure. You asked for help in diagnosing the problem, you really did get exactly what you asked for. There are no silver bullets when it comes to figuring out why a car does not operate the way its expected to. It takes tools, training, and years of experience to do this (at times) very difficult work. If its beyond your training, and of course its also likely beyond your friends, and definitely beyond Auto Zones, then you are faced with making a decision to either use a real technician and his/her skills to fix this, or else give up on it. Essentially you asked what it takes to diagnose this problem, I gave you the CORRECT answer. Use that information to help locate a good shop and a trained technician and they will make this problem go away for you.

Did you let your phlox get acclimated in your garden before you planted it? Nursery plants are grown either in greenhouses or in warmer climates, and they are fertilized heavily to push lots of new tender growth, so they are delicate. You are right to be concerned. You can create a mini greenhouse for you phlox with a bottomless milk jug (remember to remove the jug or just the cap during the day, depending on the weather) or cover it with a piece of cloth. Make sure there are no gaps around your cover (pile some soil around it). Another concern -- your soil can still be too cold. When the sun is out, remove the mulch and let the soil warm up around the roots. As a rule, mulch your perennials in late spring.
