Black Cherry is a little bit bigger than that penny, but not a lot bigger, and I think the tomato in your picture will get bigger still. Contact BC and let them know that there was a mixup with the seeds in the package. Minimally they will refund your cost or send you a replacement pack. Whatever is growing for you I do hope will at least be wonderful.

Baker Creek sent out packets of incorrect seeds for Black Cherry at least for certain lots. The company is aware of this. If you contact them they will give you a refund or exchange(whatever their policy is.)

Last year myself and some other posters reported getting incorrect Black Cherry seeds from Baker Creek. Mine weren't round, but were more oblong similar to the shape of Juliette, and tasted terrible. To their credit, they did give me my choice of two other seed packets to make up for it. But evidently they didn't recall the bad lot but kept selling it the next year based upon what you just reported.

I got my BC seeds from TGS, and so far they appear to be correct.

Maybe I had a mixup but my first time growing bc they produced very dark fruit, twice the size of a cherry and only a few per cluster. Now my fruit and the small grayish full clusters of fruit. I recall the larger fruit being much tastier than my current crop.

My BC seeds from baker creek grew some odd looking seedlings that eventually died. Could have been me. Could have been them. I don't know, but my others are growing fine.

Baker Creek's so great! They are out of black cherry tomato seeds but offered to give me a sort of store credit... more like an IOU...

I suppose there is no way of knowing what kind of tomato I have until it ripens. I just hope it tastes good!!

That surprised me as well me MA friend, b'c in the past when there have been wrong varieties, and the two I remember so very clearly, German Red Strawberry and Black Pearl, were pulled ASAP.

For those who don't know, Black Cherry was developed by Vince Sapp, the now deceased husband of Linda Sapp, now sole owner of TGS ( Tomato Growers Supply) in Fort Myers, FL. and a long time friend of mine.

i think it's a great cherry and another so called dark one that I also like is Kazachaka.

No seed co that deals with OP varieties is perfect but they have different ways of getting seed. Those ways are to do almost all their own seed production, subcontract out or to buy wholesale off the shelf. And most do a combo of those methods. Baker Creek subs out to lots of BC members for various seeds but I know also get a lot of their seed elsewhere as well.

About the only two places I know of where almost 100% of the tomato seed is produced by the Co are Sandhill Preservation and Glecklerseedmen and those are also the only two places I know of where tomato seed no older than 2yo is sold.

Remy posted above, and she has a great seed site herself called The Sample Seed Shop which has superb feedback from anyone who has dealt with her, but remy, I'm going to assume that you do all you own seed production as well since folks speak so highly of your tomato seed both to germination and trueness of varieties. But ya know, after all these years of knowing you I never asked you directly about that. LOL

I think Tania also does seed production for all of her tomato seed as well, but again, I never asked her directly.

And I'm sure there are others who do most of their own seed production as well, but I can only speak to the ones I know of.

And there are some professinal places that do subcontracting as well. But I won't get into that here.

Well it isn't a regular conversation topic, lol. 99% of what I have is from me. A few popular ones I got wholesale and the few hybrids I carry like Sungold I of course have to buy. Of the varieties from me I make sure they match description and have at least an 85% germ. rate. I run out of or run low on most items so old really isn't a factor.
I did do one subcontract this year for beans only, but I supplied the seed beans so I'm not worried about them being an incorrect variety.

I've read on T'ville as well as GW that a popular poster has stated he grew seeds for Sandhille Preservation.However I don't believe they were Tomato seeds. Doesn't bother me as I have purchased seeds from both.

In the past he used to grow out some tomato seed for Glenn and then ask for some others in trade, but as far as I can remember he's been growing peanuts and some other stuff of late.

I barely see him posting these days, at least where I read/post. Busy time of the year for everyone especially those, like him, who have home businesses.

I've had incorrect seeds from TGS twice in the past few years. Pineapple this year and I can't remember what the other was. They're still my go-to supplier, but I've already placed a small order from Victory Seeds for next year.

I grew Black Cherry this year (seeds from TGS). IMO, it didn't live up to the hype. Course it's hard for any cherry to compare to Sun Gold.

I can make a seed from anywhere grow, through pain and effort, and money.
