any one else seen blues around with all this snow.??thinking about putting up the houses..northern ohio,weather in the teens and up to 40

I had three show up today. Two females and one male. It is so cold I'm sure they appreciated the homemade suet and mealworms. I haven't seen them use the heated bird bath yet, but all the other birds are using it.

Resurrecting an old thread. So should I cut the seed pods off when they are still green, or let the pods turn brown/black first? On my daylilies, I usually cut them off when they're gree. I have a whole bunch I am saving and plan to open up and stick in some pots in the spring. I want to not let them go to seed and lose their spots, but I'd like to have some more plants started from seed. I got 2 from SpringHill and only one plant has bloomed so far. I'm not going to try that hard with the seeds - I'll probably just open the pods, maybe soak the seeds, then keep them moist in a pot in spring and see what I get. Has this worked for anyone? And should I wait until they turn brown to open? Just noticed this is the MN forum - I am in MD, but found the thread via search! Some bloom pics to share (click on thumbnails):

Hey Annie, Is the trip to CA still on? Gotta be, right? FWIW, I'm used to country driving/small city driving and I drove in Orange County with no trouble. (Preferred it to what I'm having to get used to in Baltimore!) Also, Laguna Beach and Crystal Cove are unbelievably gorgeous. You can escape to nature in half an hour/an hour while you're there. Our company has stopped using IPE and other tropical hardwoods. Although long lasting, if the moisture content is not correct, they warp horribly and have gotten expensive, not to mention the ecological damage harvesting this wood has on ecologically rich forests. We've been using Thermory for a couple of years now and have had great success. It doesn't warp, is quite lightweight, and meets fire code when used on roofs.
