I will take pictures. I am positive it is a carolina wren. The eggs are to dark to be robins eggs. It is the clutch of the tree. I think it's a small crabapple tree. The nest is only 7ft up. She's gotten use to me and will let me be a foot away. I know that none of this makes sense. Maybe she is just confused. Wrong nest,wrong eggs,?

I suppose anything is possible,but I tend to think she might just be an immature female.There were 6 empty boxes.We are way up north on the Canadian border and have no HOSP and have never seen a wren up there.Thank goodness for big favors.Whatever reason,I am glad to have them.My husband is up there this weekend,I will ask him to check the box today to see how many eggs were layed and if she is incubating.

Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polistes_exclamans and read the section about "satellite nests". Some wasp species do this as a safeguard against damage to the original nest. Thanks for posting the interesting question.

I have a couple of boxes that I never put up because I can't figure out where to put them that predators wouldn't be a problem, And how do you end up with wrens instead of sparrows? They seem to take over every chance they get. That is inspired to put a camera inside the box. Fascinating to watch. At the end I could see the wire out the back, so it's not on batteries. So do you end up with hours of footage that you edit? I would imagine you can see chicks being born and any predator birds or snakes if they show up too.
