completely free, source code also free, and is still supported

PIXIA

English language version of the popular Japanese painting & retouching software

PHOTO FILTRE

simple interface with mainly 1-click image adjustments, filters, and effects

ULTIMATE PAINT

shareware & freeware versions. Similar to old Deluxe Paint software program from Electronis Arts

IMAGE FORGE

a teaser for the shareware PRO version. A few steps above Microsoft Paint

Thanks Gail....I use Photofiltre for my editing and it does a great job. Since I don't have an add-on software program I was fortunate to have a friend who had used this little online program and highly recommended it. It is a super little fixer and very simple to use. I can sharpen, soften, enhance the color if necessary....it also will do drop shadow and bordering (framing). Just started experimenting with the bordering myself....very easy to do. Anyone can use this and get good results and not be overwhelmed by the technology....sometimes I find myself simply not knowing how to do lots of things with a new program because some are a bit confusing.I like this program and will continue to use it....and thanks Gail for listing some others I didn't know about....might check out a few of the others, too.

But there is a super free little windows power toy you can go get from the microsoft power toys site called Image Resizer This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a right-click It is wonderful! you just right click on the picture and select resize and you get a box you can pick sizes from or set up a custom size. there are ways to make vista more like xp you need to search google for "make vista like xp" you will find lots of tips and tricks. There are some threads here on GW that have posted several links to many of those so you can try doing a search here too. No, it does not resize. One has to use something like onlineimageresize. com. It is not necessary to resize on Houzz. There are some times--not many--that I do have to resize an image for a blog or auction.
