Moved here(Tampa, FL) in June to a lawn that had been neglected for about 2 years. Fungus, weeds galore and the dreaded chinch bug. I have the fungus and weeds under control and 3 weeks ago resodded half of the lawn with St Augustine (floratam) the other half was still salvagable. My dilemma is chinch bug control. I spoke to a master gardener here and she suggested a product with permethrin as main ingredient (granular), didn't phase them. I also have used triazide (spray) with limited success. I still have a chinch bug infestation. I have been checking weekly and each time I check I find lots of them and am afraid it will spread to the newly sodded area. Most of my neighbors hire lawn companies to spray. Is that my only alternative? Is there a better insecticide over the counter? Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
